Where in the World is Alex Meyer

Recommended Posts

Rochester has announced Sunday's starter, and it's Tommy Milone.  Still TBD for Monday.

So technically, no-one has actually even reported a peep on Meyer? Not a single Twins reporter? Weird. The only thing on the internet about it is us typing away here and Seth being bullied into digging into it for us;)

Berardino and Neal confirmed Meyer's situation when asked on Twitter, but to my knowledge, no, no one has actually reported it anywhere.  Which is a little strange in and of itself.

Honestly, I'm not sure it's all that strange.  I suspect the ML beat writers have other stuff to worry about.  I don't think we usually get minor league updates - certainly not on health.  And the Twins probably didn't think it was a big deal so didn't send out a press release on it.  They just rested him.

The minor league reporters - from BA to the Rochester paper didn't think it was a huge deal.  I'm not saying it isn't a big deal but I don't think it's all that strange that it didn't get much/any press coverage.

I don't know. Meyer is still one of our better prospects, just demoted, and could be Rochester's ace again. You'd think someone would have some interest in reporting on his week-plus absence, if only to keep on top of his return timetable. Also, it is apparently due to a shoulder issue, which shut him down in both 2013 and 2014, which seems notable.

Okay, after a long period of "TBD" flux, Rochester's web site has been updated with probable starting pitchers for the week (through Saturday May 21).

And Meyer isn't on it.

Next "TBD" is Sunday May 22, which would be 19 days after Meyer's last appearance.

Is he still hurt?  Or is he going to be working out of the pen later this week?

At what point does this warrant official acknowledgement by the Twins, Red Wings, or their beat writers?

You are ALL missing the point.  Albers is the New "old" prospect.  He's the IL pitcher of the week for gosh sakes!  We can't have him missing starts, even if Meyer is healthy.

It's going to be AMAZING when his rag arm is back up in Minneapolis, anchoring the Hunt for 100. Maybe this time he'll perform well enough that they'll sell his contract to an Armenian League team for next year.

Well, the Twins might have said something, but the beat writers in this town won't print it until the second Thursday in June.

2 out of your 32 posts have made me laugh. JR Murphy would kill for an average like that!

I know Seth and a few others have reported he had shoulder fatigue, but at this point I am wondering if there is actually more to it than that.  I'm sure the Twins are not saying anything officially because he is not on the DL and they don't have to.  The ones saying shoulder fatigue were probably told that is the issue if asked.  I hope everything is alright with him and it really is just his shoulder, but my gut says there is more to this and that might be a smokescreen

I can type my comments with both my left and rights hands ... perhaps they'll catch on to play OF for the Twins in June.

My guess is that the "shoulder fatigue" came from all of the middle fingers he threw up at Terry, Molly, Neily, Robby and everybody else when they handed his travel itinerary to Rochester to him.

Can't blame them though ... the best way to evaluate talent is to see it once every 32 days.

Thanks, it's good to read something about it.  Although the headline -- "should" -- belies the first sentence: "There's a chance..."

Also, that article was from yesterday, and as I mentioned upthread, Rochester has since officially announced starters for the first 6 of the 7 game road trip, and Meyer isn't among them.  The finale Sunday is still TBD.

I like that the Rochester writer took this well-deserved shot: "The Twins certainly did him no favors. He started for the Wings on April 20, then joined the Twins five days later and did a lot of nothing until the April 29 relief appearance."

I also agree with the writer "Twins didn't do him any favors". He was pitching every 5 days in Rochester, then Molitor keeps him on the bench for 9 days to turn to rust, throws him in relief and finally starts. Not to smart on the Twins part.

Ugggg, I don't even care anymore. Apathy and over-cynicism has set in. The unthinkable and undependable are now what I expect, so anything positive is now just a plus, but met with "We'll see if this lasts" thoughts on anything Twins decisions and prospects related.

The last time TD posters bleed this much was when Joe Benson was DFA'd.  I hope this trend doesn't continue for failed prospects--but I fear that it will!

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here- Is it the trend of "failed prospects continuing" that you fear-

0r-

That you fear that TD posters are in an overstated heavy-bleeding trend about failed prospects.

Yes, Berrios pitching today, Milone tomorrow, and an off day Monday. No SP listed for Tuesday.

Read somewhere that Bernideno wrote that Meyer was scheduled to pitch a BP session yesterday, but not sure if that transpired or not. Too lazy to find link this morning. Grumpy because my 2 year old got dropped from daycare for being too difficult.

Ouch, that's rough.  Sorry.

On ESPN today:

Twins: RHP Alex Meyer (shoulder) has not pitched since being optioned to Triple-A Rochester on May 4, but on Sunday he's expected to throw his second bullpen session in three days. Twins general manager Terry Ryan said that Meyer is being prepped for a return to the starting rotation.

Oh, no!  That's awfully harsh. Hopefully he/she doesn't have to go to Rochester, too?

Cool down. Have to wait a few days to see if she passes through waivers; maybe another daycare will snap her up.
