"This is weird... I was told, "he should pitch sometime this week."

I dont get it. David Martinez was terrific in his first 2-3 starts for the Red Wings. Struggled some in his most recent start. I'm hoping to find out more specifics."

The Twins can talk about wanting "power pitchers" 'till they're blue in the face. But until they get over their organizational fear of walks nothing will ever change. I would gladly trade a few extra walks for more K's and fewer extra base hits. Hard contact and extra base hits are more damaging than walks. Why else would the homerun multiplier in the FIP formula be 13 and the BB multiplier only 3?

There's only a few possibilities -

1) he's been moved to the BP

2) he's hurt

3) he's upset about something and there are communication problems between him and the team

Or they may be considering moving him.....

He seems like a nice and sensitive guy. A team guy. But the way he's been handled this year by management might try the patience of his agent... who is... Scott Boras.

I don't remember ever hearing of Boras invoking a work action for one of his players, but perhaps he has expressed some frustration with Terry and things are on hold at the present moment?

I saw somewhere that he pitched twice since April 20 something? Is that true? Has he pitched at all since his "demotion"? Btw, I echo the thought on the teams take on high velocity pitchers. And I might add this. No pitcher has ever had a major league save or win in Chatanooga TN, or Rochester NY. This has to be at least the fifth year the Twins have talked up how they have changed their theories on SO pitchers. and they're stil talking. Maybe that's where the term "Talkin Twins" came from.

That sounds a bit conspiratorial, but it wouldn't be the most out of the box thing Boras has done. If fans are upset about what happened to him, surely he and his agent have a much bigger grievance.

I wasn't meaning to sound conspiratorial at all. I'm just thinking that the agent might have requested a sit-down to get some clarity on what exactly the plan is going forward.

Certainly, Boras is counting on a decent payday for himself and his client in the not-too-distant future- and Meyer isn't exactly in spring-chicken status as a prospect anymore.

This. All of this.

To be honest, If I were Meyer, I WOULD BE pretty upset about something, namely how Molitor showed me zero respect or faith in my short term or long term success as a starter.  But unlike me, Meyer seems to be pretty mellow, so I doubt (3) is it.

I was going to post something about him having not pitched since being demoted last night, but forgot to. I did think about the possibility of there being some friction, especially since Meyer has made it extremely clear that he just wants to be in the bigs and being in the pen he thought was his quickest path...really the only reason I think he wanted in the pen in the first place. Quicker to the bigs and quicker to pay raises.

I don't blame him. He also seemed very strange on the mound in Houston after he struggled. Almost like he was going to cry or was shutting down. He knew how he'd be handled probably, but maybe there is something else going on there physically, mentally, or emotionally. Greinke had issues and I know one other good pitcher other there had some anxiety issues too. I honestly thing by watching Meyer that he might have some anxiety issues, even if it is simply performance anxiety on a micro level.

That, or they have him on a once every 10-14 day schedule to optimize his development. Glad that I was not the only one searching the Rochester boxscore and schedule to see when his name would pop up and in what role.

They wanted him rested in case they needed to call him up for a double-header today or tomorrow, if their "no rain" rainout happened and they could schedule it.

Yeah, "rested".... so he could again pitch "rusty" and out of rhythm after another week-long layoff and subsequently followed by then getting pulled from the game prematurely... to the further detriment of his confidence.

Good plan there by the Twins.

Any update?  He didn't get in the game last night as a reliever either.

Meyers name is not listed as one of the starters for any of the next four games. But, there are some phenomenal talent pitching those four games, so I understand. At least they were able to find a way to MAKE SURE that Milone was able to stay on schedule and move him to the front of the line for starts.
