Fangraphs (and other national publications) on the Twins

Great link to read about Baddoo. I'm concerned about his inability to hit breaking balls though. Especially in this organization that hasn't figured out player development yet.

It’s a concern, especially as the curve balls improve significantly as he ascends.

FWIW...his K% has doubled to ‘only’ 25%...and his BB% has also managed to continue to improve and is now sitting at nearly 16% this year. It seems he can recognize, which would seem to be at least one of the important prerequisites for whatever adjustments he needs to make.

And he hasn’t turned 20 yet. Definitely interesting.

Most players cannot hit decent breaking balls.  They learn to lay off them.  Instead of flailing.  That's the key.  Hit fastballs and changeups and mistakes.  That's why elite hitters get one hit per 3 at bats...

I hanged out with Jeff Sullivan and five athletic writers tonight. They were all very nice

Did you ask them their thoughts on why Molitor hasn’t played Astudillo behind the plate yet?

I was mightily unimpressed with the Kiriloff draft pick but everything I've read in recent months is "beast mode". It appears he may be legit.

I’m in the same boat and pretty thrilled to have been wrong about him, at least so far. Let’s hooe he keeps it up.

Wow, I think the adjective for Kiriloff and this article would be "gushing"

The bar is pretty high for corner fielders, but if the team sees him as having a bat that will put him above average even for that cohort, then I'm wrong to have suggested packaging him for an established veteran. Competent corner players can be acquired cheaply, but beyond a certain level they carry a team offensively and are hard to get. Certainly his current performance isn't hurting his ceiling.

Right, the one manager basically said they gave him the Barry Bonds treatment.  That's nuts.

Go A's!
2:02 What is Miguel Sano still doing in the minors?  How is this going to shake out?
Dan Szymborski
2:03 They're taking their time, realistically speaking the 2018 season is over, so they're being cautious.  Really, he should be slugging 1200 or something down there!
laughing 1  cool 1
Michael
2:03 When is Sano back in the show? Doing better but still only single A...
Dan Szymborski
2:04 HEY ARE YOU TWO THE SAME DUDE

Eddie
2:20 Better prospect...Jo Adell or royce lewis?
Dan Szymborski
2:20 May be Adell right now
2:21 and Lewis is damn good

2:42 What is the most interesting potential Machado destination to you?
Dan Szymborski
2:42 Philadelphia becuase they could then literally take him off the market quickly
cool 4
2:43 I also had a dream that the O's traded him to the Twins for Gordon, Thorpe, and Rooker, and the Twins signed him

Rufus
2:49 % chance that the Twins do not finish 2nd in their division?
Dan Szymborski
2:49 10?
I'm pulling that

mike sixel
2:57 Can MN catch CLE? If not, should they deal Kyle Gibson at peak value, he has a year of control left and has been very good since they changed his approach last year.
Dan Szymborski
2:57 I think it's unlikely.
I'd at least listen to Gibson offers.

Eerily.

I liked that they acknowledged that the FO was complicit but IMO they went a little easy on them. If Matheny was that much of a problem and the FO let it persist to the point where the team torpedoed then they're probably more responsible for the disaster.

Twins OF Alex Kirilloff and, shockingly, Padres CF Buddy Reed had opposite-field-heavy approaches during BP. Kirilloff’s feel for airborne contact, which he has displayed since high school, is remarkably consistent

The article is about the futures game, and race.....with that blurb at the end.

A Twins player made Kiley McDaniels' Trade Value Chart...

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2018-trade-value-41-to-50/

"When you see trade rumors to the effect that a club on the outskirts of contention is looking for “controllable starting pitching,” [berrios] is the guy they’re hoping to get."

Um.... interesting? But relevant to what, exactly? :)

this series of articles, I'd guess? I don't understand the question.

Nothing wrong with the relevance to this thread. Just relevance to reality, on the part of the writer. He can profile J.O. Berrios all he wants. There won't be a trade. Trade Value can be anything he wants to say.

Uh. What? They talk to scouts, teams, and others to determine relative trade value. Sure, he could just make up whatever he wants, but that's not a fair statement of the effort put into this series.

Twins
Status: Probably sellers
For Sale: Not a ton as, while they have underachieved this year, there is a good young core on this team that the Twins are going to give a chance to bounce back. Brian Dozier could be moved, though, as could the finishing-piece veterans the Twins brought in thinking that they’d contend this year. Guys like Fernando Rodney and Lance Lynn could be dealt. No blockbusters seem likely to run through Minnesota, however.

1:07 It's obviously time to worry about Byron Buxton in the batter's box.  But how worried on the 1-10 scale should we be?
Jay Jaffe
1:09 playing though the broken toe and the migraine issues is almost certainly a factor in his performance, and they'll wind up burning a year of his club control in a noncompetitive situation in part due to that. I still think the upside is very high but that they need to manage him more closely, and encourage him NOT to just "tough it out" in order to get the most out of him.

Sean
5:21 Now that Machado has been moved, who do you see as the next major piece to be moved?
Jason Martinez
5:22 Moustakas, Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier all come to mind. I think we'll at least get some Realmuto rumors, but I'm not ready to say he'll probably get traded. Makes more sense in the offseason.

Billy Heywood
5:28 You think the Brew Crew should go after deGrom?
Jason Martinez
5:30 Yes, but I don't think they will. More likely to add a 2B (Dozier, Gennett, Escobar, Merrifield, Asdrubal, Kinsler are all options).

Dozier's home
5:37 Where do I land outside of Minny?
Jason Martinez
5:38 Milwaukee makes a lot of sense. Not too many other teams in need of a 2B. Maybe the Red Sox if they've given up on Pedroia returning to health in '18.

Dozier
5:51 What would a deal for Dozier to the Brewers look like? Hiura? Burnes?
Jason Martinez
5:53 No, they won't trade one of their best prospects for a rental. They have some good arms in the 10-20 range of their system.
