Trade Josh Willingham

Benson got demoted to AA and Parmelee hasn't been spending hardly any time in the OF. What about that makes them look like potential starters next year?

Because they're cheap, under team control, and not breathtakingly obvious "sell high" options?

I don't see it....the Twins will try to fix their SP(no..I don't know how) this offseason and try to contend in still a avg division next yr...the Hammer will still have alot of value next July if they fall out of it again.

with our ownership and penny pinching presedent , expect 1 of the following , a contract offer to pavano, jaime moyer,or maquis ....as they are inning eaters who can really help this team and gardy loves the way the balls come out of there hands....

wait...you want these guys to start because they are cheap, under team control, and not good enough to trade for a big haul?

That's how you turn a big league franchise into a AAAA team.

First off, none of our OF prospects are really beating at the door right now. Arcia has been fantastic, but he just got promoted to AA. I have to think he needs more time there, and it wouldn't hurt for him to get time at AAA as well.

Secondly, Willingham will have value next year. There will be plenty of teams in contention at next year's deadline. There is no reason to expect his value to fall off a cliff after one year. Unless the Twins get blown away by a deal this year, hold on to him. Don't take that PR hit just yet.

God damn people...in context! Sell him if you get "sell high" value and worry about the corner OF later. You also turn a team into the worst in the AL selling Hardy and Young for the mighty package of Oliveros, Jacobsen, and Hoey. Willingham is past his prime, a significant injury risk, and having a career year - if you get sell high value on him - pull that damn trigger and worry about what cheap option plays OF later.

He has much more value than he would in the offseason. Teams are trying to win now and need him for a playoff push. In the offseason there are other ways to acquire a player similar to him.

The issue is that if the Twins trade Willingham at the deadline they will basically be punting next season. They might be able to sign a guy or two, but I would argue the Twins have 2 holes they have to be thinking upgrade this offseason (2B and RF), and if they move Willingham that adds another one. Add to the rotation and that is a lot to change over.

Obviously if Ryan is bowled over he should move him, but I don't see that happening.

Yeah, this.

As far as I'm concerned every player (including Mauer if he would waive his no trade clause) is on the block so I have no trouble with the idea of trading Willingham.

BUT it is all about getting value back. With Willingham, I have to wonder if the significant difference between his stats at home and his away stats won't somewhat decrease his value to other teams. I also have to wonder if he doesn't have some unique value in Minnesota just in demonstrating to other players in the system (majors and minors) that it isn't impossible to hit well at TF.

In other words, does he have significantly more value in Minnesota than he would elsewhere? And does that affect the type of return that could be expected for him?

Still $17 million left on that contract and it's for 2+ years. That slows this down a bit. And the Twins should probably hold on to him so they don't revert to a 63-win team in 2013 and REALLY drive away fans from the park.

They are on pace for 68 wins. 68 would keep fans in the park and 63 will drive them away? They suck. Period. Gotta do something to change the team. I don't think that trading your best power hitter (Willingham) is that something, no matter how awful he is on the field. In this league there is a DH.

I really hope the Twins listen to offers for Willingham. Jon Morosi tweeted "#Twins have yet to put Josh Willingham on trade market, source says. He is in high demand, esp. after Carlos Quentin extension.@MLBONFOX"

I'm sure they'll listen. The question is one of value. They'll have to overpay for him.
