SPOILERS: The Force Awakens

So, some of you may know this but I'm just about the biggest Stars Wars knob on the planet. I've seen the original trilogy over 200 times and know the movies from front to back. I'm such a fan that I've even suffered through the prequels 50+ times, even though I admit they're pretty terrible (though Ep III has its moments).

So, who's seeing this movie and when? I have tickets for the first showing available at 7pm tonight.

I was originally a bit disappointed that Lucas sold to Disney because I wanted Star Wars to go quietly into the night... But I had one caveat to that opinion: if Disney hired either Abrams or Whedon to direct Episode VII, I was all on board.

Obviously, that happened. I couldn't be more excited about how they've managed the hype for this movie. Eliminating Luke from all promotional materials sets the audience up for an Empire-style bombshell when they sit down in the theatre (I still bitterly remember Lucas putting Maul's dual-bladed lightsaber in the Ep I trailer, which was the coolest - maybe only cool - thing in the movie).

Also, I will change this thread title and add SPOILERS after tomorrow when more people have a chance to see it so if you don't want to know what happens, don't follow this thread after tomorrow.

Anyone who posts spoilers before Saturday after people had a legit shot to watch the movie will receive a warning point. No, not joking. Don't be a dick and ruin the most anticipated movie of the year for those who are excited about it.

Me, my dad, my oldest son, tonight at 8:30. Only regret is not buying them sooner and getting reserved seats. What time do you think we need to get to Southdale AMC to get three seat together?

I'm leaving later than I'd like for my 7pm showing (4pm).

My suggestion would be to get there before the post-work crowd has time to line up. I'm shooting for 4:15-4:30, though if it was my call, I'd be there at 3pm.

Jeebus. I can't do that.

Well, you might get lucky. I've been to several Thursday night pre-releases and oddly enough, the public hasn't really picked up on the fact they exist yet. Even highly anticipated movies like Avengers 2 didn't have enormous lines on Thursday.

Though if that's going to change, this is the movie that will do it.

I had an invite to the 3pm showing for Disney employees today, unfortunately I have a flight this evening so wasn't able to attend. Rats, I was really looking to spoil it for everyone.

Haven't even bought a ticket yet ... have just been too busy with work and concerts and didn't know what my schedule would allow. Seats available on Sunday, though, at my local theatre ... which is reserved seating so no need to get there early to line up for a seat. And it's walkable/busable so no worries about parking being a mess ... and it will be. We'll see ... just. so. busy.

And I don't really care if y'all spoil it for me or not ... I'm still seeing it anyway. Likely a few times. In various formats.

Do you guys have those VIP theatres where they serve booze and have little tables at the Super duper comfy seats? Up here its an extra $10 for that luxury.

Yup :)

And that's the theatre closest to me ... walking distance, on a bus line if I don't feel like it, or if I really don't feel like it, free parking! In Chicago, that's something!

And it's not extra if you have an ICON Extras thingie. Although, I'm sure they make up  that cost for the people drinking and eating real food. Oh, and it's 21+ for that section ... because it serves alcohol.

I'd give it an 8/10, I think. It's good but has some warts. At moments when you're really getting into the new characters - which are stellar across the board - Abrams tears you away from them to go on a nostalgia trip with the original cast. It's fine the first couple of times but wears thin by the end of the movie.

But man, some of those characters and plot points. I don't see how Episode VIII isn't going to be incredible. If nothing else, Abrams set up the rest of the trilogy to succeed.

The most surprising - and impressive - thing about the movie is that Abrams and Kasdan made me care more about the new characters than I did the old characters. If Star Wars is going to succeed going forward, it needs new characters and they delivered on that front.

My nephews and I watched the original Star Wars last winter and they loved it. However I am debating taking them to the new movie as they are only nine and six. For those who have seen the movie what is the PG-13 rating for? Is it violent? I'm not that big of a fan that I would go and see it and then take my nephews to see it if I think it's okay. :) Thanks guys.

Don't have a date yet, but plan on seeing it.  I wanted to take my birthday (today) off and do a marathon with the final showing being Episode 7, but work, and my wife's 40th birthday trip last weekend kind of got in the way there.  Plan on catching it at some point as I have plenty of time off in the next few weeks.

Since it was announce last year that this would come out this December I tried so hard to get my now 5-year-old interested enough to take him to the theater [PG-13 is just a guideline right?(Yes I'm a terrible parent)].  I got him to watch Star Wars but he never got catatonic watching it like he does watching cartoons so I knew he was too young too hook. The movie would have to be basically 90% Chewie for me to have a chance with him right now.

Now because I'm married with two young children which causes me to have no friends, I'm left taking my wife who is beyond bored with Star Wars. A new development occurred Tuesday though after the kids went to bed and I was trying to get my wife to watch Empire. My 5-year-old came down from bed and saw us watching, he was pretty excited watching the battle on Hoth and he got excited when he watched the Millennium Falcon land in the worm hole on the asteroid as he recognized that scene from the Lego Movie and somehow knew the payoff to that scene.

So wife who will fall asleep? Or 5-year-old who might get bored? Both will probably end up asking a million questions throughout the movie.

Don't be so tough on yourself. I'm sure you were friendless when you were single and without children, too. I hear ya. All parents go through a similar phase.

Between BB-8 and Chewie, your five year old will probably make it through the movie.

I liked it. My only complaint is that everything was very predictable, but it was very well done/exciting. I'm definitely buying one of those bb8 remote control (iPhone) droids
