No, don't eat children.

 

But, this whole thing about going after players, teams, (and sometimes other posters) by changing and making fun of their name(s) really needs to stop. I propose this should be called out specifically in the posting guidelines and then seriously enforced.

 

Think of it as an early New Year's resolution.

1. Respect for others is expected in everything we write, and personal attacks are not allowed.

This means respect for fellow TD members. It means also showing respect for players, team staff and ownership, journalists, the other teams and their players, player agents, players’ wives… everybody!

It means giving others the benefit of the doubt; it means not being combative, nor looking to take offense at someone else's supposed "tone"; it means not labeling other posters or groups of people, or applying disdainful nicknames to players; it means turning the other cheek even when we feel we’re not being treated with respect ourselves. If your purpose in posting is to belittle someone, think twice.If you're trying to express your utter exasperation with another poster, think twice.If you're about to explain once and for all how a deep character flaw you perceive in a fellow human being can and oughtto be corrected, or even simply how this person could change his or her life for the better, think twice and then twice again.

 

I think it's laid out pretty well, again it's difficult for us as a moderating team to be able to catch everything, so we rely on the community to report these kind of behaviours as well. I encourage you to do that in these circumstances. Certainly if we feel the post is meant to demean an individual we will take action.

Mods also try to keep a sense of proportion, and a sense of humor.

 

We don't always succeed, but I think we all try to recognize the difference between a good natured joke, and a mean spirited and/or repetitive dig.

 

Our mission isn't to remove all the fun from the forums.

 

We also give extra leeway if the player in question is a Yankee.

I really find the bordering on offensive names the Packers are called on the Vikings' part of the site sad, frankly.

 

I've been warned about (what I thought was cleverly) changing a players name to be spelled like cheese. Another poster here clearly is using Plouffe's name in a way that is denigrating to him and non-heterosexuals (deny it all you want, we know what he is doing), and yet that is allowed.

Quit making assumptions, Mike. Please. Who said he was allowed? Just because you don't see what gets said to others privately doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

 

As for you being warned ... you weren't. I PM'd you and asked you about it, politely. I asked, I didn't warn. And then suggested maybe you not do it that while harmless, it could signal to others to do something more intentionally and worse. And, for the record, you told me that it wasn't you, but autocorrect and you left it because you thought it was funny. So, it wasn't even your cleverness.

 

As for Vikings Journal, take it up with the moderators there. While it has the same owners, it's a completely different site with a different vibe.

Who is Jerry Ryan? Is there such a person you are comparing him to?

 

At BYTO we had a lot of word filters and code names that just developed over time.  Terry Ryan was almost always referred to as Jerry, not for denigrating purposes but as a running joke from someone's mistake.

 

Plus he just looks more like a Jerry.

When I saw it I think he was offering a random TD member $100,000 to let their wife spend one night with him.
