Cross-linkage of articles and forum threads

Huh, I only check the forums so I didn't see that article either (still don't).  Is there a delay on articles appearing in the forums?

I think the article posted on the main page as I was starting the topic.  Oh well.  I should have known someone else was on top of this one.

To add to my own question a bit, Seth's article timestamp is 1:24 on the main page, 1:33 in the forums, but didn't actually appear in the forum for me until after 1:50.... no biggie, but easy to see how we wind up with duplicate posts on timely news!

I'll try and explain this clearly, but I know it will leave some head scratching. When an article is posted to the front page, a duplicate article is generated for the forums. It sometimes does take a bit of time between when the front page article appears for the duplicate to be placed into the correct forum. Whenever you see a forum thread title preceded by the word 'Article' it means that the same article is also on the front page. (For example, on the front page, the article title reads "Twins Add Seven to their 40 Man Roster, Lose Achter and Pinto; in the forums, the same article/thread is titled "Article: Twins Add Seven to their 40 Man Roster, Lose Achter, Pinto.") The way the system works with these duplicates, the comments are linked. In other words, if you comment on the front page article, it is seen by those reading and commenting in the forums; and vice versa. So, basically, you can read this same article in two different places on the site, but the comments section, or reply comments on the thread, are one entity. It's a way to unify the site between those who only read/participate in the forums, and those who only read/participate on the front page. But the comments link the two so we can have one discussion, rather than two separate discussion between readers/posters.

When a new article is published on 'breaking news,' yes, very often some posters beat us to it in the forums. So, when that happens, and to help consolidate the discussion, we will close the non-article thread and redirect discussion to the article thread.

If this is still confusing, please PM me ... or better yet, ask Brock.
