Blame Dozier...but that was an 0-2 pitch from Perkins that Young just doubled on to tie the game. Completely unacceptable.

Both runs should be unearned, it doesn't matter if the pitcher is the one who committed the error.

Dozier should have been the first out, Carroll struck out for out number 2 and Span flew out. No runs should have scored.

ESPN has them both as unearned FWIW

I just checked the rulebook. You are correct. My bad.

Inning would be over if it weren't for Dozier.

true but you gotta bounce back and the wild pitch didn't help...but Perk has struggled most of the yr as the closer although his numbers dont show it he's battled

That's doesn't excuse Perkins. Yes, those last two runs are "unearned," but Perkins can't blame anybody for them but himself.

Two solid hits, and two hits off pretty good pitches. That happens, but he shouldn't have had to get 4 outs, and the fact that Dozier's error was a two base error wasn't insignificant either.

The real loser here is Cole DeVries. He deserved a W tonight, and the Twins couldn't hold it.

So true. Hopefully he gets a lot of credit tonight in the locker room.

It seems to me that Perkins has been asked to pitch a lot of inning lately. And I don't understand why Gardenhire left him in the game so long, especially with the All-Star break starting tomorrow.

Gardy's always been like that - he lets the "closer" get the job done or blow it completely - no half-way measures. In all fairness, most managers do the same thing. Closers are supposed to be your most reliable people in those situations - they're supposed to be able to pitch their way out of trouble.

Perk did pitch 4 days in a row, but he had 2 days off after that, and this was only his 2nd game in 5 days. He should have been rested.

Washington pulled Nathan when he looked vulnerable, but Gardy left Perkins in to give up the tie. I like the Washington approach better, assuming that the goal is to go into the All-Star break with a win.

Nathan wasn't in a save situation. That being said, given the results, I can't argue.:) If the end up losing this, they're going to spend the next 4 days kicking themselves.

Just who exactly would you prefer?

The blame belongs squarely on Dozier and Perkins. Dozier for the boot, Perkins for giving up the extra runs, including 2 hits on 0-2 pitches.

It sure would be nice to win this particular game.
