Riverbrian has turned this into National Twins Daily Dog Day. :) I'm going to post pictures of our other dogs ... I try not to inundate you guys with posts like I used to, but in this instance I'm going to post the pictures separately because I'm curious to see who likes what kind of dog. ;)

My sister's German Shepherd, Willow ... the self-proclaimed queen and protector of the family, afraid of nothing.*

Now this is another sister's Miniature Schnauzer. Back before we got him, she and I were fiercely campaigning to see who deserved the honors of getting a dog. As it turned out, she won because she was eight years my senior and therefore more responsible. She picked Shadow because she wanted his cute and cuddliness, but she wasn't committed to training him how to be cute and cuddly. I took it upon myself to train him for her. Guess who was more responsible! ;) She got off easy that time ...

P.S. I even trained him how to be cute ... my sister had some sort of Little Lord Fauntleroy dilemma about his hair, but he was so hideous before I started giving him haircuts. After I got Clover she stepped in and did it herself. It was hard convincing her that he was cuter with short hair, though.

I don't know the details of the sliding lane rule but it sure looked like he was blocking the sliding lane. This goes back to the discussion on the Elephant in the room thread. What is the definition of clear evidence to overturn? Had Mauer been called safe do you think the call would have been overturned?

And this is my brother's German Shepherd, Meadow. She's Willow's niece. I could have done a better job training her than my bro did. She's earned herself the nickname of "Shark" because she's such a brat. We also call her Emmy because my younger brothers used to run around calling the dogs "C., M., etc. (last name)" as in "E. Gattis grounds into a double play." If they were the first to be pet that day, they singled. Next, doubled. And so on down the line. So for a while Meadow was Em, but we endeared it to Emmy. Occasionally I call Clover Cece, but the rest of my family thinks it sounds too much like C.C. Sabathia. Emmy's other nickname is Shik, a sort of play off of Shark that is supposed to sound a bit more offensive.

Rule 7.13

•Unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in the judgment of the Umpire, the catcher, without possession of the ball, blocks the pathway of the runner, the Umpire shall call or signal the runner safe.

It certainly looked like the catcher had the ball before Mauer made contact, imo.

if they are going to interpret the rule that way, then bring back the huge collisions, the Pete Rose one, the Bo Jackson one - the new rule protects nobody if you allow Conger to position himself as he did.

Imo? Nope. Not opinion. Fact.

Where Conger positioned himself, straddling the foul line, he made it inevitable that fielding the ball would involve blocking Mauer's path to the plate. Thus, I call baloney on that ruling.

I call baloney on the ruling

But I also call baloney on the rule itself... So I'm OK with the result.
