Gophers Football

19 seconds well managed should have resulted in multiple shots at the end zone and then the field goal. One thing Kill always emphasized in his wide receivers was a big catching radius, so he has guys who should be able to out-height and out-leap guys from Michigan on a one-yard jump ball.

My dvr didn't record the whole game. I sat and stared at the TV with under 4minutes left in the fourth and silently wish I'll will on abc for having hocus pocus on so late. After seeing the result, the coaching staff should be apologizing to the players. Leidner should have just done a quick snap qb sneak in spite of the stupid play call. Words can't describe the ineptitude of those decisions in the last 20seconds.

BTW, that is the gopher team I expected to watch the entire season. W.t.f. Leidner was fast! W.t.f. There are some young paymakers on that team. The season is salvageable still. Knock off osu, and continue the momentum and end the season on a high note.

At this point it shouldn't matter about getting to the Little Caesar's Music City Papa John's Bowl Game broadcast live on ESPN 8 The Ocho. The number 1 goal now is to find a way to win the Floyd of Rosedale and the Axe...

Amen, but mainly the Axe, Floyd is currently back where he belongs but that damn axe has been away far too long, 11 years for crying out loud!

A win against Bucky would make this season a successful one.

Tracy Claeys was named FT Head Coach today, signing a 3 year contract through the end of the 2018 season.

I'm happy they're continuing the course with this coaching staff, and look forward to seeing if he can recruit just as well as Jerry.

Really? I was hoping they would bring in a new staff after the clock management debacle. I suppose this means another year of Mitch Leidner at quarterback too. Yay.

He's done well so far. The team has showed up with a plan and played well. The clock thing was unforgivable, but it was such a small sample I think he gets a second chance on that. You can't judge a coach based that one play. I think they beat Iowa Saturday too. I don't even think it'll be close.

I'll admit that they have looked better since Kill retired. And if they do beat Iowa, I highly doubt it would be by a lot. Iowa is a lot better than they get credit for, especially by casual fans.

Recruit well? Where have their classes ranked among big 10 (really, can we rename the conference already, please) teams each year?

I'm happy for Claeys, good luck to him.

You're kidding right? How about higher each year he's been here. It's Minnesota, he's not a miracle worker, sorry but it's going to take longer than 5 years to compete with the likes of OSU, Michigan, Bucky etc. Kill's biggest achievement has been doing a much better job at attracting and keeping in State talent, something other regimes mistakenly overlooked. It's made them better.

Btw, the 2016 class is currently ranked in the top 25 by Rivals and 247.

Claeys provides continuity for the current athletes plus the recruits for the highly regarded 2016 class. He's also a safe choice for a school lacking an AD at the moment, which is why the 3 year deal makes sense.

I like Claeys, I think he's done a fine job and deserves a shot. As fantastic as he is with the D, I like how he handles the offense, even more than Kill.

I think they'll beat Iowa, that will get him knighted, beat Bucky and he gains Sainthood........and an extension.

Good for him, they have made two top 15 teams sweat in his first two weeks as coach.

I think Mason said this on Barreiro and it's true: EVERY coach has messed up and blown wins with stupid decision making. Most coaches just get to do it in high school or DIII schools where it barely gets noticed. Claeys had the bad luck of it being on a huge national stage in his first game.

Just don't fool yourself into thinking that is the end-all, be-all of his coaching acumen.

Well,in that case......

Am I wrong? Was anything I said there not factual?

Did they have clock issues last year that were awful? Yes.

Did they claim to work on it all spring and to have fixed it? Yes.

Did they then completely blunder that end of the game, terribly? Yes.

I don't hate these coaches at all, I just don't get what (on the field) stuff you all see that leads you to think they'll ever be much better or worse than they are right now.

Do people really think they'll beat Iowa? Just for reference, Minnesota got shut out by Northwestern, and Iowa beat Northwestern by 30...
