Gophers Football

He isn't, but I don't think they have a better option. I was hoping green would be head and shoulders above these guys, but it's tough to know what's going on behind the scenes.

I like the pay calling, and can see how a good qb would take this team a long way. Fleck will get some talent I think. The problem with everyone since mason, was identifying talent. That shouldn't be a problem at a power 5 program. Even Wyoming can recruit qbs once on a while.

And this is why I hate scheduling cupcakes in non conference.

Those games should NOT count towards bowl eligibility- that would discourage teams from scheduling them.

You get a false (and meaningless) sense of their abilities. This defense is getting shredded by a team that was mediocre at best, before they were down to their third string QB.

It also is terrible at preparing a team for conference play. They suddenly find themselves playing against a team that actually is capable of beating them after playing zero competition all nonconference season.

The rules need to change, because as they stand now I totally get why a mediocre team is tempted to get 3 or 4 free wins towards a bowl berth.

Not watching the game, but 150 passing yards through 3 quarters is a complete joke. Can't win games like that, doesn't matter who you play. How bad has Rhoda looked? The first 3 games he looked below average at best, guessing he is being exposed more. I can't wait for the day the gophers have competent qb pay again.

The worst part about Rhoda is there's no threat of a QB run, which has led to a terrible rushing offense so far. Rhoda actually looked pretty good passing in the 4th quarter, until the interception late anyway.

Maryland isn't actually that bad.

Still, disappointing. Defense got shredded.

They were 3-6 last year, and playing their third string QB, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

The Gophers were expected to be mediocre, and yet were 15 point favorites.

EDIT: They were coming off a 28 point loss to powerhouse Central Florida, and were down another QB since. They aren't just bad, they are awful. And they rolled over us.

Hopefully this is rock bottom, and a wake up call to the players and coaches that the game isn't played with nonsense cliches and catchphrases.

I loved the P.J. Fleck era.

I really, really hope I'm wrong, but haven't liked it since the day he was hired.

Out, out brief candle. Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Embarrassing losses to Maryland and Perdue. Really no excuse for 101 passing yards in an entire game. I'm glad I didn't watch it, I'd have come unglued. I don't see another win for this team the rest of the year. Sad state for a team inches from beating Penn State and Michigan a year ago, and thumping Washington state in a bowl.

In all seriousness, the weather had a lot to do with that. The wind was ridiculous and unpredictable, which made throwing for both sides difficult. Rhoda had some nice throws also get dropped. I will say that I don't care if he's 6'10" or not, throw the damned flag for DPI on guys when they're draped on Wozniak. Both tight ends had multiple DPI calls blatantly missed today to the point where my wife and foster daughter hollered at the TV.

I still think PJ is a good hire and will be the best Gopher coach since Warmath.

He inherited a team that didn't recruit well enough the last couple years. Particularly at skill positions. Let's give him more than two B10 games.

At least Fleck has been successful. I'm not willing to close the book on him already, this is just a brutal start. He won't win a single big ten game this year and miss a bowl game for the first time since Kill took over. Maybe they will surprise me. It isn't Flecks fault he took over a barren cupboard at qb, d-line, o-line, wr, lb. That isn't easy, but when you see someone failing (Rhoda) and have other options you have to use them. I want to know why we haven't seen Green yet. Croft is just as bad as Rhoda so I'm over him too.

Hopefully last night was a turning point. Croft looked way better. While not polished, he can move in the pocket and make plays. I'm guessing Rhoda lost his job. The defense still was eaten alive, until that is fixed it's going to be tough to beat big ten teams.

Croft looked awful against Illinois. If Illinois was even a halfway decent team, this should have been a loss.

It's a coin flip next week in the battle for Floyd. Iowa gives up 235 passing yards a game, ranking 12th in the conference.

It doesn't seem to matter who the coach is, the Gophers always seem to throw the ball to one guy, and one guy only. Fleck and co. need to come up with a game plan to spread the ball around.

Croft is terrible, Rhoda is terrible. I couldn't believe they stuck with Croft on the second half.

I think Tyler Johnson and Wazniak are alright. Smith would be an excellent receiving back too. Play calling has really bad all year. The running plays looked better on Saturday, so I'll give them that.

The next 4 games are winnable. Iowa is pretty bad, and Nebraska/NW are meh, Michigan is not very good either. Without better qb play forget about it.

I guess they're just rolling with Croft for the time being. He's already named the starter against Iowa. Though I can't imagine Seth Green is worse than Croft.

That performance against Illinois was a disaster. It was bad enough for a d3 qb to lose their spot. I wonder what the deal is with a Green. I have to think they'll give him some time this year. Hopefully it isn't mop up time against Wisconsin.
