Article: Trevor May Is Thriving In The Bullpen

Recommended Posts

This is pretty much what Rob Anthony said a couple of Sundays ago. I would be shocked if May isn't already penciled in as the 4th or 5th starter next season. I give May a lot of credit. He took one for the team, and has been lights out as a power arm in the pen. Teammates and coaches don't forget that type stuff.

Hopefully Rob Antony is not around to be part of that decision come the off-season...

Ryan is not going to go after a top flight starting pitcher.  It could be the best FA SP class in history and they still wouldn't do it.

Yeah, and that is fine with me given three immovable deals, May, Gibson, and Berrios.

We need to get better in the pen and catcher.

I know it's not cut and dry who the Twins best starter was prior to May's demotion, but he was the best strikeout pitcher, he was the second best at limiting walks (and still one of the best in the league) and the second best at limiting HR.

To me he looked like the best of the bunch, and at the very least he had the potential to become the best starter by season's end.  I would think most team's best starter would also look good in the bullpen.  No doubt Clayton Kershaw could be the best closer in the game should the Dodgers choose to put him back there.

Why can't all 3 be true?  I see Pelfrey gone.  I don't see the Twins eating Nolasco's contract, but I could see them having to pay quite a bit of it and trade him or have him pitch from the pen to try to salvage some innings.  I agree with them offering Milone arbitration as well.  I don't see him getting traded though.  They could use a lefty in the rotation.

Even in your scenario only 1 of 3 is true.

The original quote was the Pelfrey would be gone, Nolasco released and Milone not picked up (Basically all 3 would become FA at the end of the season).

We agree that only Pelfrey will be a FA at seasons end.  I never said that Nolasco and Milone would be here opening day.  While I would prefer that the Twins' work out a trade for Nolasco (even if they have to pay part of his salary), Milone is the more tradeable asset.  Milone is a decent left handed pitcher that is under team control for 2 more years.

I think it is way too early to throw in the towel on Ervin Santana. History has shown that he will be worth his contract. Here's an interesting link to the salaries of MLB starting pitchers - it's not like Terry Ryan went nuts and started handing out obscene contracts for no reason.

Maybe I was wrong
