Saturday's Starter, rotation shakeup

I think there is a fair amount of intrigue building as to who will start on Saturday.  Alex Meyer threw 56 pitches yesterday which can't be a coincidence as that is far more than any recent outing.  He would be on regular rest for a Saturday start.

Does this mean the Twins are considering him?  Or, more likely, Berrios with Meyer taking his spot in the rotation?

The idea of Berrios getting the call with Meyer taking his spot in the Rochester rotation makes me so damned giddy I just can't even.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but I am a smidge reluctant on having it be Berrios.  Simply because he will have to be added to the 40 man and, unlike previous years, we may actually have good players being exposed outside of the 40 man this offseason.

Berrios needs to be added to the 40 man early next season anyway because he needs to be in Minnesota.

That may cause a small issue but I think the Twins can figure out a way to make it work. For example, deal Milone or just release Nolasco. Pelfrey is gone as well.

If anyone is added, it is probably for one start, with Milone being activated on Sunday. That being the case, maybe Meyer could get a start with the idea that he goes 70 pitches. I'd love to see Berrios, but if it is just for a one start cameo, I'd wait until September to call him up. He doesn't have much AAA experience.

Mike Berardino
‏@MikeBerardino   #MNTwins Saturday starter remains a mystery, but one name I've been told to rule out: J.O. Berrios. Not happening, per PWDK.

RHP Michael Bowden would seem a solid possibility for Saturday. Last worked Sunday: 6-8-4-4-1-6 on 95 pitches. Has mid-August opt-out.

I swear to god, if this happens, I'm going to completely lose my mind.

Okay, so you don't want Berrios to start. Fine, whatever.

But Michael Bowden? No, man. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

Berrios not being called up for a spot start is fine by me. The only way he should get the call is if he would stay up with the Twins.

I'd like to see Duffey get another shot. He faced the hottest team in the majors , with the most potent offense, on the road in his first start. Hard to expect success given that. He doesn't impress, then perhaps you can keep him up and let him get some bullpen innings.

Honestly, why not May? He's an actual starter, he can pitch, I'd guess, at least 3 or 4 innings unless he runs in to trouble? And you already have 13 guys in the bullpen! Let them pitch!

OK...I exaggerate...but my point is made.

Why?  It's so late in the season, we probably wouldn't even have to burn an option to send him back down.  And he's not coming up from AA or some such -- he's very close anyway, and he's clearly the best option.

And of course, it could be a spot start *audition* for more starts or even a September MLB relief role.

My choices would be:

1. Duffey

2. Berrios

3. Gibson (radio guys said he volunteered to pitch on short rest)

4. Graham

Michael Bowden is not an option to be taken seriously. This is his third organization in 2015 and he's been with the Twins for three weeks. And Berrios has vastly out-pitched Bowden in those three weeks. God bless Michael Bowden for persevering and sticking with it (he's been to show a couple times with other clubs), but he's not pitching Saturday's game. I'm actually kind of upset at Berardino for getting me worked up. :) (but at least I know Michael Bowden is in the Twins organization now, which I didn't hear about until now).

Any questions involving the Twins, Trevor May and the word "why" in the same sentence,  will be transferred immediately to the unmanned help desk.

Alright, at least it isn't Michael Bowden starting. For now, that is...

Also, Hughes is going on the DL. So Duffey is taking Hughes' spot in the rotation and not Milone's.

Side-Note: When TR signed Bowden, I think he mentioned something about possibility getting him to the major league team. I just know TR has a plan to get this mediocre veteran onto this team.

EDIT: I somehow missed it, but May is returning to the rotation! Hallelujah!
