Article: Twins Transactions: Buxton Activated, Optioned to AAA

Recommended Posts

It's not so much development.  I obviously don't think a few weeks in MLB is going to fix Arcia or fully acclimate Buxton.

But both could/should be parts of the 2016 opening day roster, and both have a TON of question marks about them in that regard.  I'd rather try to answer some of those questions now, rather than kick that can down the road, which could throw off our offseason priorities (do we sign a FA OF starter, or risk going without one?) and in Arcia's case, could make for a very uncomfortable roster crunch next spring since he is out of options.

I agree about Arcia's question marks. But I don't necessarily agree about Buxton.  He has put up good enough stats in AA and now AAA to warrant making the team opening day.

The only question is his health, but if he is healthy then the rest is known.

I fully agree on this. If it were up to me, I'd certify you as "fully hinged".

True, his initial numbers in AAA look pretty good so far.  Still would be nice to get him a little further on his MLB acclimation path this year, but it's shaping up that we'll have to choose between that and another Arcia MLB evaluation this September, barring injury.

Big picture.  I am very pleased with how the year has gone from a prospect perspective. It was a bummer that Buxton got hurt again and awful that Meyer looks like a reclamation project at this point.

But Berrios has not missed a beat and looks on the cusp.  Rosario has exceeded expectations and Hicks may have salvaged his career and future here.  And that Sano guy has been unbelievable.

Absolutely. A continued collapse would stain this a little but this year will be seen as the beginning of the turnaround when people look back in a couple of years.

Yes. When talking about the rebuild, people tend to forget 2014 was a pretty awful year for Twins prospects.

Buxton, basically out for the season. Sano, completely out for the season. Meyer, late season injury followed by a 2015 implosion. Rosario, development stunted due to his love of ganja. Hicks, so completely lost he gave up switch-hitting.

2015 has been a much better year for the entire organization.

I haven't read through this whole thread, I'm sorry to say, but let me chime in on the question at hand...letting Hicks have sustained at bats, including at lead-off, and get some confidence from the left side of the plate, is huge. I think he is going to turn into a long term contributor from one of the corner outfield spots.

I would love for Buxton to be up right now, but getting him back started at AAA--and it is working--has worked out beautifully for Hicks and Buxton. Hopefully Buxton will be up in 1-2 weeks.
