Food and other such holidays

I was clearly referencing the frightening prospect of a cataclysmic chain of events that causes tsunamis, earthquakes and Godzillas to simultaneously destroy all the worlds nuclear reactors at the same time.

we watched most/part of that awful end of the world movie after skiing and eating one night....the one with the boats in the Himalayas?

looked it up: 2012. Ugh. It was sadly lacking in Godzillas, btw.

Far too many movies suffer from a lack of Godzillas in my opinion.

Though no number of Godzillas would have saved 2012.

I know I've seen 2012.... In fact, I can guarantee the DVD is in my living room. There isn't a single thing I can remember from that movie though, when I think about it. It's blending in with 'The Day After Tomorrow'

2012 = John Cusack

Day After Tomorrow = Dennis Quaid

Speaking of apocalypse movies - does anyone remember the TV movie from 1983-1985 called "the Day After". It was a nuclear holocaust movie and Jason Robards was the featured actor.

That freaked me out as an 8-10 year old... still does.

I watched that on YouTube a few months ago.

Our teacher brought it to school taped on a VHS, she hyped it for a week saying that we were going to watch it on Friday. I'm not sure if she came to her senses or if someone told her she couldn't show it to us, but we never did end up watching it in class.

I don't recall a ton about my elementary school days, but I do remember the picture of Ronald Reagan hanging from her blackboard.

Krispy Kreme opened a store in Winona, MN ... my hometown ... it closed within a couple months because, well, you can't compete with the hometown, family-owned/operated bakery. Winonans will never abandon Bloedows, never ever.

That's the weird thing about Minnesota.... If we don't have (insert major chain restaurant here) then we beg for them to come to MN. For example, Dunkin' Donuts was the latest craze the last time I was up there. Then that major chain shows up, we realize it's not that great, and they close down within a couple of months.

There's so many local places to give business to, we should continue doing that, no matter where we live.

Yep ... I'm forever looking for independent coffee places here/near work ... I do NOT want to give my business to Starbucks and I can't stand their coffee anyway. I actually like DD coffee better, but that isn't all that great, either. Then I found a place, and now it's closed. But then I found this place. That picture is the entire place. Maybe 4 or 5 customers can be in there at one time and I often see a line out the door. And it's down this alley-way ... off the beaten path. Very cute and good coffee. But it's just a little out of the way for me and they don't sell Do-Rite donuts. Oh well ... can't have everything in life. And I probably shouldn't have the donuts anyway.

My favorite local coffee shop is Summer Moon ... It's wood fired coffee, and when they put their "moon milk" in there, holy buckets it is delicious. I also refuse to give my business to Fourbucks.

It's also National Wear Red Day today ... for heart disease awareness.

And Krispy Kreme donuts are really icky. You could squeeze one and see the grease come dripping out.

What on earth caused you to start squeezing donuts?!

I also think Krispy Kreme are overrated, ours in town didn't last long either, though they chose a really bad location. I take my kids to a local donut shop downtown every Saturday while my wife works out of our house (she's a photographer). Shout out to Sandy's Donuts, for creating the only thing that makes my kids like me!

I didn't say I ever did. But they are so greasy, it makes sense you could squeeze one and actually see the grease drip out.

World Cancer Day; talking and raising awareness.

I lost both parents, and my wife's mother to cancer. My sister is a survivor. Odds are pretty good it's my future.

Remember, science and medical research are the best hope to slay the dragon.

Thanks for throwing this out there Craig. My wife has the BRCA1 gene and had an Oophorectomy+.

It took the life of her father's mother and on that side of the family - most of her great aunts lost that battle, and her aunt is in the throws of that struggle.

Without science and medical research, my wife's life probably would not reach the 50 year mark. That is around the time when her family members expired from cancer.

Those programs are essential to defeating Cancer and just about everything. Without them we are doomed to an unpleasant fate.

Craig, I certainly hope cancer is a battle you don't have to personally fight or deal with.

Here's some good news coming from the research front.

Happy Tuesday! We've got some goodies to talk about today....

Today is National Fettuccine Alfredo Day! This dish was invented by Alfredo di Lelio in 1908, because his wife did not have an appetite after giving birth to their first son! I love alfredo sauce.... And vodka sauce is even better IMO....

Today is also National Send a Card to a Friend Day! So YOU get a card! YOU get a card! YOU ALL get a card!!!

Today is also National Red Day... According to studies and science, today is the most likely day that couples will break up.... 1 week before Valentine's Day.

On this day in 1935, Parkers Brothers begins selling a board game that became wildly popular! In fact, it is the best selling game of all time! That game is Monopoly! I love this game, but don't love the fact that a game can take HOURS to complete.

Also, on this day in 1964, the biggest rock band in the world made their US debut!

So we should be sending breakup cards then? To Marven Gardens? With vodka sauce on top?

Ok.

Help!

Once you land on Park Place, you're supposed to dump your SO, find an Italian restaurant, order pasta with vodka sauce, and listen to the Beatles! Easy!
