Today is Thursday already! Holy buckets....

It's National Bird Day! A day to celebrate all of the wonderful kinds of birds out there in the world. I'm a bird lover, not a bird hater... Though the Cardinal, Blue Jay, and Oriole are not my favorite.

On this day in 1933, construction began on the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco! In order to get started, they had to excavate 3.25 million cubic feet of dirt for the structure's huge anchorages. The bridge was completed 4 years later.

Also, on this day in 1973, Bruce Springsteen released his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ.. There were a couple of jams from his debut album! Like this one:

You know, it's one of the rare instances where the cover is better than the original IMO...

No doubt.

On the other hand, Springsteen never wrote:

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
She looked good (looked good), she looked fine (looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine and I nearly lost my mind

This was around that time too. Few remember that Springsteen wrote this.

Best song on the album is this one though:

Disagree, I've always preferred Springsteen's version of Blinded by the Light. Far more authentic and has that famous slow build he's so good at, before letting loose one of his signature breaks (which he references in the song)

Manfred Mann didn't even bother taking on this passage,

Well, I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground and asked him which was the way back home
He said, "Take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then, boy, you're on your own"
And now in Zanzibar, a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car, hummin' a lunar tune
Yes, and the avatar said, "Blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar, we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon"
And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night
Well, I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap but figured he'd be all right

Who sings that? his phrasing is crazy. His Van Morrison influence is pretty obvious.

I'll give Manfred Mann this though, it was a near complete reworking of the song, not just a simple cover.

That's fair, and frankly I'm more of a rhythm/melody guy than lyrics.. I've grown accustomed to the keyboard intro from Manfred Mann's version and how he signs the tune.

How are those new year's resolutions coming along? Feeling like you've lost a pound or 2? Well, Taco Bell wants you to forget those and put on another 10 lbs... With this monstrosity, the Naked Chicken Chalupa.

That's right, a fried chicken breast as the taco shell. Mark your calendars to visit a Taco Bell starting January 26th!

I'm going to try that thing for sure. I remember thinking the Doritos locos taco was a dumb idea. Boy, was I wrong about that.

We expect a full report on January 27th. Doritos locos tacos are a brilliant idea.... I'm not too sold on this idea.

Is it bad if I just want a regular chalupa shell? Something about those things...

Concur... I'm seeing T-Bell items at the grocery store now. Like their taco sauces, seasoning packets, etc. I'd be way more interested in buying a chalupa shell pack than their other stuff.

Is it weird I don't eat there at all?

No ... I have never eaten at a Taco Bell, ever. It just does not seem appealing ... particularly here in Chicago when you have taco trucks and taquerias everyhwere.
