4 year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy in Newtown, CT..... 20 1st grade babies and 6 staff members were taken way too early from the world by Adam Lanza that day.... It's still among the worst mass shootings in US history.

On a positive note, on this day in 1977, "Saturday Night Fever" made its' debut in the theaters! As a result, the disco fever shot up to unthinkable levels. Why is it so easy for me to picture Mike, Craig, and Chi wearing bell bottoms and getting their boogie on?

Oh Lord ... why would you want to picture nightmares???

We have some fun things to talk about today!

Today is National Cupcake Day! Feels like only a couple of weeks ago it was vanilla cupcake day. If you didn't get your fix then, you can redeem yourself today!

Today is also Bill of Rights Day! This was a proclaimed day by President FDR, and to celebrate, put an American Flag on your window at work. Because, 'Murica!

Today is also National Cat Herders Day! Dinger is one cat away from becoming a herder. Also, Chi is Santa Cat.

On this day in 1979, North and his Canadian friend sat down for a game of scrabble. They were missing a few tiles, mainly because North was losing and threw the game down in disgust, so they came up with a plan.... This plan was to create a whole new game using inconsequential facts. When it rolled out world wide, it became one of the most popular board games ever...

That game, is Trivial Pursuit!

Killing some time at the airport before heading out for a palm tree Christmas in California...

Today is National Oatmeal Muffin Day! Considering I've been up since 430 this morning, this guy could use some breakfast!

Isn't holiday travel the worst? 3 different people came up in the TSA check line giving their sob stories of how their plane is boarding in 5 minutes and if they could cut in line. Instead, how about showing up to the airport on time?

Holiday travel isn't any worse than travel anytime ... there are just more people. I have one thing to say: TSA pre-check ... worth. every. penny. (I actually have global entry from when I did a lot more international work travel, and that includes pre-check. Also worth. every. penny.) Seriously. Those lines are sometimes long-ish, but they go fast. And the people cutting because they couldn't get themselves to the airport on time likely don't have pre-check. With pre-check I don't have to arrive quite as early ... about an hour (we're talking O'Hare and Midway where regular security check I usually plan on 90 minutes not busy times, 2 hrs busy times). Domestically I travel (by plane) about 9 times/year. It's not a lot compared to business travelers, but it's enough. I will never fly without pre-check again.

And I'm having oatmeal for breakfast. :)

Safe travels and enjoy your holiday in Cali.

Oh, and I'll also be having a palm tree Christmas in Florida. After all these years, I still find it a little weird seeing palm trees decorated with Christmas lights.

Today would have been one of those days for TSA pre-check. Most of the time at Austin Airport it's a breeze to get through the line. No longer than 30 minutes. Today it was an hour and 15 minutes. Lots of people flying out between 7 and 8 I guess.

Early morning travel is typical of business travelers, especially on Mondays. Monday mornings on typical Mondays are usually pretty busy. If I'm flying on a Monday morning, not only do I allow extra time for security, I allow extra time to just get there.

Yeah, I guess if you are flying out of an airport that is 'easy,' the pre-check thing wouldn't be as useful ... but the three airports I fly out of most ... O'Hare, Midway and RSW (Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft. Myers) ... security lines can be monstrously long, and in Ft. Myers, slow. The worst line I encountered was at Midway ... it took 90 minutes to get through ...

Good morning and happy Tuesday!

Today is National Sangria Day! That sounds delicious! May have to make one tonight after playing pickleball....

CC to Chi: since you're a big tennis player, have you played pickleball before? Apparently it's huge out here in California, and it's a blast to play!

Is pickleball the same as paddle tennis?

Edit: Paddle tennis = platform tennis.

Okay, just googled, not the same. I've never done either, but my club has paddle tennis courts and leagues and teams. I've never tried it, although I'm curious about it. Paddle tennis is only played during the winter here, and that's part of it ... I do not want to be outside playing sports when it's zero degrees out. Not my thing.

Pickleball is more rinky dink. It's super fun.

Yeah ... I googled. I'd probably suck at it, though ... or at least at first. Going from tennis to racquetball from racquetball to tennis is pretty humorous. Lots of swings and misses, due to differing lengths of racquet, until you make the adjustment. And pickleball would be no exception, for me anyway.

Okay, so it's a food and holiday thread ... report back what great food you had today (and last night if you do a Christmas Eve dinner.

Last night we had shrimp/lobster Newburgh with salad and Scandinavian red cabbage and some crusty bread. Apple rum dum for dessert.

Merry Christmas, y'all ... or Happy Chanukah, or Happy Festivus, or Happy Kwanzaa ... whatever you are celebrating, what are you eating!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you're spending this day with family and friends.

Our family tradition for xmas dinner is lobster... Can't wait!

Um, lobster in California? Whole, fresh? And you have to pull them apart and all that? Do you wear a lobster bib, and will you post pics of you wearing it? :)

That's lobster eating cheating! But still yummy! I personally like shrimp better. Lobster is a bit rich for me so only have it when I visit my sister in Maine. And then it's the whole fresh live in the pot and we have to work for the meat! :)
