Food and other such holidays

Creme brulee is probably my biggest weakness.

We did a tasting menu last weekend....they said it would be 5 courses, what they didn't say was that those would be on something like 18 different dishes, including 4 desserts....

That's my kind of a tasting!

I'm continuing the planes, trains, and automobiles trip in MN to a wedding... Let's kill some time.

Today is National Cheese Curds Day! This is a staple food item to get at any state or county fair...

Today is also National I Love Lucy Day! This iconic show started on this day in 1951, and I've got to imagine still runs reruns on TV Land.

Today is also National Grouch Day! Or for Chief, today is Saturday. I'm becoming a grouch from sitting on a plane and now in a car for another 3.5 hours. Body is stiff!

On this day last year, Joey Bats crushed a pitch that still has not landed, and did the infamous bat flip.

Also, on this day in 2003, Steve Bartman becomes the scapegoat for the Cubs blowing it in the playoffs.

Cheese curds ... yum!

Figures it's grouch day today. It's my day today, too. I'm grouchy today. I'm tired, too. Couldn't play tennis this morning and that never bodes well for a good day. Grrrr ... just leave me the **** alone!

Ah, and it's zombie pub crawl tonight. I fully expect Mr. Vanimal to participate.

I attended in college and the first couple of years post college. It's a fun night out! Unfortunately we drove in the opposite direction for a wedding instead.

My suggestion is to eschew conversations with toxic people. Easier said than done, I know.

Steal the bride and find out if she can channel Helena Bonham Carter.

Happy Tuesday!

Today is National Chocolate Cupcake Day! You want to know the password to my heart? Baking chocolate cupcakes is a great start....

Today is also National No Beard Day! I have no problem celebrating this day, as I'm not able to grow any worthwhile facial hair. Could be on a deserted island for 10 years, and come back with a 5 o clock shadow.

Finally, on this day in 1922, British Broadcasting Corporation was founded! We can thank them today for great TV shows such as Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Luther, Orphan Black, and Sherlock!

I last went beardless about 1992. That was a mistake. No mo'.

Listen to BBC radio daily as my favorite world news source. BBC America is first-class TV network as well, although I could use some more Doctor Who reruns. Bloody Amazon.

It feels like BBC America is the trend setter when it comes to TV... Most every American reboot of BBC shows are disappointing compared to the British version. The Office on NBC is the only one that comes to mind that was better than the British version.

Depends on the chocolate cupcake. Some I like, some I don't.

The no beard thing is also not a problem for me. However, as I age, I do worry about hints of stache developing. I keep a close eye on that with tweezers handy just in case.

BBC ... what's not to like?

Cupcakes are only worthwhile with cream cheese icing. Then they are very worthwhile!

Beards? Yeah, no. As a lover of craft beer it pains me to know I will never be able to open my own brewery due to my inability to grow a beard.

Love the BBC but probably watch its colonial cousin the CBC a bit more.....hockey excluded.

As much as I love Steve Carell, Ricky Gervais was just too brilliantly cringe worthy

I liked the Monty Python's Flying Circus re-make starring Jerry Van Dyke, Bert Convy, Jim Varney and Pat Paulsen.

You wouldn't remember it, but Steptoe and Son was remade as Sanford and Son in the US. Different emphasis because of the talents of Redd Foxx but did quite well.

Happy Friday!

Today is National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day! I love cheesecake as much as the next person, but have not had pumpkin cheesecake before... Which prompts a tangent: Have you started taking advantage of all the pumpkin spice flavored drinks and food out there?

Today is also National Mammography Day! Chi, Formerly, you know what to do!

Finally, on this day in 1917, famous jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie was born!

Pumpkin bread is my go-to; I leave my lattes au naturale. Sam Adams' pumpkin ale is okay if you're in the right mood.

Gillespe and Satchmo; love these guys. This style of music improves with age like whisky.

Wearing the pub crawl shirt today; displaying M. Beauchamp's elegant design work.

Paste magazine does taste testings every month or two....and recently did their pumpkin beer tasting.

I like the stouts a lot....just drank Elysian Dark O' the Moon Pumpkin Stout. tasty.

I looked ahead, not many days I feel all that excited about coming up, but I love that Van throws in the anniversary type items also!

Pumpkin flavored beers are hit and miss with me. Craig is right, the Sam Adams' pumpkin ale is okay when you're in the right mood. Have not tried Elysian Dark O' the Moon, but will be on the lookout for it at the liquor store...

There are local Austin breweries that are coming out with their pumpkin ales, and they're just okay. Most of them are too sweet to drink more than 1 of them in an evening.
