Buckle up! We've got some goodies today... 

Today is National Beer Lovers Day! Why yes, I will partake in this national holiday after working out tonight! 

Today is also National Salami Day! I've been known to make a mean salami sandwich every now and again..

Finally, on this day in 1927, Philo Farnsworth invents a device that we all enjoy on a near daily basis. He was able to invent an "image dissector" which was a key development for televisions!

When was the last time you enjoyed a good chocolate milkshake? Maybe that should change to today, because it's National Chocolate Milkshake Day! 

Today is also National Day of Encouragement Day! I will celebrate this day by telling Jordan Schafer great job!!! after he records an out.

Today is also National Video Games Day! What was the last video game you played? 

Finally, on this day in 1933, Hungarian physicist Leó Szilárd conceives the idea of nuclear chain reaction with atoms.. This was later developed to be atomic bombs.

We've all seen this person on posters, and perhaps even dressed up as him for Halloween! Well, the man behind this iconic poster was born on this day in 1766. Samuel Wilson is his name, and this is his day. Happy Uncle Sam Day!

Today is also National Peanut Day! There's a couple of necessities if I'm attending a baseball game. 1. I'm getting a hot dog. 2. Order a beer 3. Get some peanuts. In honor of the baseball season winding down, enjoy some peanuts while you can! 

Today is also National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day! A day where you're supposed to let your kiddos cook dinner for the night. If my parents let me do that back in the day, they were going to eat Macaroni and Cheese. The cooking skills have improved quite a bit over the last 5-10 years. 

Finally, on this day in 1990, "Law and Order" made its' TV debut on NBC! 26 years strong. Much like Everybody Loves Raymond, I'm convinced this show has been running this long without a single person watching a full episode.

Love peanuts; my blood pressure maybe not quite so much.

 

The dogs take over the kitchen every day.

 

I liked Law and Order during the first few seasons when Michael Moriarty was the lead, and it was all a bit fresh then. Lost in the shuffle after that. And I am a Sam Waterston fan, but being in this maybe kept him out of a lot of other potential projects.

The original 'Law and Order' is no longer strong. The SVU one is, but not the original. I think that ended last year. Maybe.

 

I never met a peanut I didn't like. Unless it was rotten. And I didn't eat it anyway. Now I hope you are all singing, 'Found a peanut, found a peanut, found a peeeeeaaaaanut last night ...'

 

Kids cooking? We did. When we were older. Perhaps didn't cook whole meals, but I certainly had the responsibility on many nights to get it started. But we helped when we were younger. Mom was a home ec teacher at one time. Even though she left that profession early on in our growing years, she still made sure we were all self-sufficient in the kitchen. 

 

Yeah, I always thought that 'I Want You' guy was a little scary the same way a clown is. They aren't supposed to be, but they are.

That's probably the case. In my lifetime I've never heard anyone come into school/work/etc. and say, "Did you watch that episode of Law and Order last night?! Who would have guessed it was the ex boyfriend who killed her?!"

More of a sunflower seed guy myself, peanuts are ok though.\

 

My daughter just started cooking supper once a week for us, first up were some burritos. I was impressed!

 

Preferred Moriarty myself, not because he was Canadian either. Also thought the pairing of Chris Noth and Jerry Orbach was best. Missed Noth when he left.

Nice! Get them started young with cooking! Wish I would have learned the basics of cooking a long time ago. And it's nice for you and your wife to take a day off from rattling the pots and pans too.

How bout we tack on a National Peanut Allergy Day to counteract the whole kids cooking with peanuts thing?

Those poor souls with peanut allergies.... I'd hate to go through life without peanut butter, peanut sauce, Reese's peanut butter cups...

Sorry, maybe I didn't notice people suffering when I was young but it didn't seem to me that anyone was really bothered by me bringing a peanut butter sandwich to school, or peanut butter cookies. Nut free cupcakes and such weren't a pre-requisite for celebrating a birthday in class.

 

Van, you're on the younger side, was this a thing when you were in school? When did this really start?

I think a lot of people develop peanut allergies in adulthood. Don't know why, though.

I feel like this became a thing 10-15 years ago. I remember in elementary school people could bring in whatever they wanted for their birthday. Now schools are going to extreme measures to protect themselves from any sort of allergy concerns. 

There may be a case or two where a child really could die if they are in contact with peanuts... I'd venture to guess most parents are over reacting and claim their child's allergy is worse than it really is.

My bro-in-law has a serious nut allergy. They carry eppy pens, or whatever they are called, with them wherever they go. He will have a reaction when he walks into a kitchen and someone has just rinsed out a pb jar. Even the fumes are bad for him.

 

I don't think more people are allergic to peanuts than before ... I just think there is more awareness now.
