Always33, you do good work.

I've had to explain to co-workers on the East coast what dilly bars are. Makes me want to cry in my Ben and Jerry's.

Those poor souls... There is nothing better than dilly bars that were made at the store. In fact, now that I think about it, we had Dilly Bars as the dessert for my High School graduation party!

I've never had a dilly bar. Or a graduation party, for that matter. Am I missing out on something? I suppose if I had friends outside of the realm of online forums I might've had both, but that's what I get for being an introvert ...

I have had the first, and enjoyed the second for others. Also being an introvert, I avoid such things for myself.

The thing that I was just introduced to, courtesy of my sister-in-law, is mochi ice cream. Quite delightful.

Do yourself a favor and find an older DQ around your house. Hopefully they still do things the old-fashioned way and still make them in the store. If you find one, this will be you after consuming the dilly bar:

High school graduation parties were good to get a couple hundred bucks, and spend time with your friends for the last time before we all move on to something else. There was a good couple week run where we could find a party to pick up a snack during the day.

Ew, why would anyone willingly eat soft serve as long as ice cream exists?

I color in my own drawings, if that counts. I hardly paint anymore, but I'll occasionally pull out the old Prismacolor pencils (I'm spoiled so I have a selection of 150) and color in a sketch. Or sometimes it's a little more than a sketch, as Captain Jack Sparrow took me more than a few minutes to complete ... but as long as it's in a notebook, it's probably still just a sketch.

Love me some Depp ... have since (<gulp>, I'm going to admit this out loud) 21 Jump Street. Yes, I watched that show. Don't judge, lest you be banished.

As for coloring, I got one of those 'adult coloring books' from my sister. And saying that like that sounds like a porn coloring book, but it was actually one of those nice, interesting patterned books. I always liked coloring as a kid, and like design-type fun things to do. Heck, I bought a Spirograph as an adult because I thought it was that much fun! So bring on the coloring! :) And while people are buying up these nice colored-pencil, markers and pastel sets for their coloring, I dug out my Crayolas! (Yes, I still have those, among other things. I have a craft drawer ... it keeps the mind sharp and the fingers nimble.)

The TV show was markedly better.

Oh, I thought the first movie was pretty fun for what it was, a comedy/action (vs a straight up action or action/drama type) ... and loved the cameos of Penhall and Hanson. Wasn't expecting it at all and really laughed. Did not go see the sequel, though. One was fine and enough.

I binge-watched the first couple seasons of 21 Jump Street when I was TDY in Cyprus.  They had been donated to the Armed Forces Network who distributed them to us.  They were on Beta Max :-)

You have a craft drawer? My family wishes I'd cut down to that. I have art supplies strewn throughout the house ... fortunately, they make up pretty much all of my possessions. My sister wanted to get something out of the back of a closet the other day and could only laugh when I pulled out boxes and bags full of acrylics, watercolors, pastels, crayons, pencils, and Conté à Paris (my go-to) ... not to mention paper and boards and that kind of thing. And yarn. Lot's of yarn. I guess that's not an art supply, but you wouldn't believe how addictive yarn is until you try knitting or crocheting. Or weaving, but I haven't done that since I was nine. My mom wants me to join yarnoholics anonymous, if that's a thing.

Speaking of crayons, I have these, not Crayola. They're pretty cool and are bolder applicants. I usually use them like watercolor pencils, but a while ago I was using them as lipstick. My mom put an end to that one pretty quick for fear that I'd succumb to some rare disease caused by the gradual ingestion of artist grade crayons ... and I have to admit that real lipstick tastes a lot better. :P

I've never heard of 21 Jump Street, so I can't exactly judge. If you find my lack of knowledge disturbing, you're more than welcome to ban me anyway. :) And when it comes to Johnny Depp, I've only seen Edward Scissorhands and all the PotC, and I watched the former because of my love, Winona Ryder.

Also, reading the Wiki article Craig shared makes me want to try daifuku and manjū ...

Yes, a drawer plus a shelf in a cupboard. But I don't paint so have no need for acrylics, brushes, easels, canvases, etc ... all those space-taking type things. And I don't knit or crochet so no need for tons of yarn. I do some needlework, but always from a kit ... I don't design my own and go from there as aunts of mine have done and do ... but when the kit is done, I usually give it away and throw out the extra thread and the hoops don't take up much space as I'm usually not working on a large scale. And I did calligraphy for a while ... again ... the ink and nibs don't take up much space and nowadays you can buy markers with flat ends of different sizes; the tips either get too soft or dry up over time, so they get thrown out. I have some paper and crayons, mostly kept around for when I had younger nieces and nephews. Oh, and my hot glue gun. Basically what I'm saying ... I don't have large-scale supplies, and I get rid of 'excess' stuff when projects are complete.

Those Lycra pencils ... might have to try them ... but they look odd-shaped ... how do you sharpen them?

Some of my 'craftiness' gets put to use in home projects, too. And, again, project complete, excess out. Comes from living in a condo with limited space.

21 Jump Street the TV show ... pretty sure you weren't born yet when it came out. Yes, it's that old.

I had to look up the dates on that since I never watched it. Contemporary with STNG, MacGyver and Moonlighting, which is the stuff I was watching back then.

But then I'm even older than...

First time someone your age has made me feel like I have any worthwhile number of years under my belt ... :)

Lyra crayons ... did I call them pencils? I sharpen them with the sharpener that came with my brothers' set ... though tbh, most my art supplies belong to the whole family, but I'm an elitist snob who doesn't let people who aren't as good as me "waste" the high quality supplies on inferior works. The only one who holds a candle to me is my older sister who went on to bigger and better things years ago. Oh, and the crayons are water soluble, so I draw with them and then use a paint brush and water to blend.

I love calligraphy and learning different handwriting, and my first job was signing a gazillion envelopes for a wedding.

Have you done needlepoint? I started these kitties at least ten years ago and probably haven't worked on them for five years. I'm terrible that way ... it's one of the reasons I have so much junk, I guess.

IME, it is more fun to date other people......ymmv, of course.

If I dated myself, I certainly wouldn't be having strange arguments that I've been experiencing lately... I learned that the way I fold bed sheets is incorrect on Sunday night!

You need to fold them so that when you pull the ripcord they deploy properly, don't you? Chief probably knows this.

Neither do I. Just figured, hey, that would be a nice thing to do folding laundry.... yeah I was wrong about that.

Um ... a nice thing to do ... together ... as in, 'Hey, let's fold my laundry together. That'll be a fun activity to do together!' ... as in ... yeah ... help me do my personal chores? Um, yeah ... because that's a fun date activity I'd enjoy ... then you are right to be instructed, whether or not she actually cares either, in how you fold your sheets.

I learned that if you fold and put away things 'incorrectly' enough times, you'll never have to do it again :-)

A few ways we differ.  I don't like my socks folded together into a ball, so I can fold anyone else's socks but mine.  When I put away my clothes, I put them together as a set, so now I can't put away anyone else's clothes but mine.  The kids are getting older so that second part is less of an issue, but still.  It extends to putting away tupperware containers.  I always put container and lid together, she has a spot just for lids.  I don't get it.  So I don't put away dishes either :-)

I thought compromising was a necessary component in a long-term relationship ...  Seems like we need to pull an old quote from this thread:

"Just be an adult, and don't get pissed over stuff that just doesn't matter all that much......" ~Mike the Wise

Mike Sixel and Jimmer's wife know how it works, at any rate. And ChiTown. ✌️

Well ... to be fair to Van's other half ... they aren't married nor are they living together ... so ... he's really asking her to fold laundry as a date activity. Really?

Second, perhaps she's 'instructing' him ... and hopefully will do this enough times on this 'date activity' so he stops suggesting these things as fun 'date activities' they can do together and will just take care of his personal chores on his own without her involvement.

At least that's how I read it. I learned a long time ago ... and maybe Van can send me his gf's contact information ... when you aren't living together or married, in a long-term situation ... don't help him do his personal chores including laundry, cleaning, shopping, etc. ... if you do he'll then look at you as someone he can give these chores to and reap the benefits without giving her any real commitment. Yes, it's all about the subtext. ;)
