Hash browns>fries (in general, there are some awesome fries).....

I'd concur with this in general ... I like a little onion and cheddar in mine. However, there are always exceptions to the rule ... I don't know how they do it, but the Belgium frite is the exception. Just stop at any frite stand, with a little mayo on the side, O.M.G. ... best ever!

I love fries, just keep that ghastly ketchup off of them thanks. Of course there would be no poutine without the French fry. It might be one of the most perfect foods, the ultimate side.

Franks and beans, I think that's a 'Merkan thing. I have beans with some nice sausage and eggs for breakfast, and definitely hash browns.

Bangers and mash, with peas. Let's do breakfast.

Well, today we have National Hot Dog Day! So grill up some dogs in honor of the Twins returning to action tonight!

Today is also National Nude Day! I suppose that's a way to stay cool during a hot summer day... May I suggest searching the interwebs for nudist areas around you to explore today?

I'm disappointed no one is working from home to celebrate this national holiday...

I'm off today ... but I wasn't about to play nude tennis ... maybe I'll celebrate nude day at home this evening.

By the way, it's also Bastille Day ... so instead of nude and eating hotdogs, I think I'll be nude eating a baguette with brie and some lovely French wine.

And it's my brother's birthday. I'll suggest a suit for him.

We have some animal related holidays today...

Today is National I Love Horses Day! That's right up my cousin's alley who owns 4 horses on her farm...

Today is also National Pet Fire Safety Day! A day to teach your pets what to do if there's ever a fire in your home. There's not much of a point to this holiday, but the picture they put on the website is adorable.

Today is also National Give Something Away Day! I've already paid it forward this morning buying a lucky lady's coffee behind me at the coffee shop.

Finally, on this day in 1799, the Rosetta Stone was discovered! This large slab was the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. And now you know!

Yeah these holidays aren't in my wheelhouse... Can't recall the last time I had sour candy, and caviar..... just no.

Did you know?

On this day in 1927. Ty Cobb gets career hit #4,000! He smacked a double off of his old Tigers teammate, Sam Gibson.

I figured Craig would be on top of things today. Because....

Today is National Moon Landing Day! July 20, 1969. Apollo 11 lands safely on the moon with astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" as they say.

Today is also National Lollipop Day! When was the last time you had a lollipop? I think the last time was when I had to get my car fixed a couple of months ago where they had Dum Dum's at the front desk.

Finally, on this day in 1976, the first human made object successfully lands on Mars! Viking 1 was able to take the first known pictures of Mars' surface.

Yeah, I've decided to be scarce in these parts.

I do recall watching Walter Cronkite with Wally Schirra, and also Jules Bergman all intently during the Apollo 11 mission, and stayed up late of course to watch the EVA. One of the best days of humanity coming together.

In the late 70's, I had some fun working with a Physics post-doc at the U of M who was doing work analyzing the mass spectrometer results from Viking on the Martian atmosphere. A lot of brand new information came out of that.

No lollipops here.

This is one of the better ones we've had in a while...

Today is National Junk Food Day! I'm going to need some time to organize my thoughts on guilty pleasures for junk food, and ranking the best junk food...

Let's say today is your cheat day. Your significant other also wants to join in on a food crazy day. Where do you go?

Not sure where but it would involve fried cheese curds and fully loaded nachos.
