Holy bleep you guys!

Today is National Devil's Food Cake Day!! That's an all-time favorite cake in my book....

Today is also National May Ray Day! A day where you're supposed to soak in the sunshine and enjoy a nice spring day! Ironically, Austin has around 220 days of sunshine a year, and the one day this holiday falls on, it's heavy thunderstorms all day.

Devil's Food cake is the boss. Unfortunately someone I know has been told to drop a few pounds; so it's more like national veggie day.

And once again, sir, I want to commend you for this thread, This is about the only part of the site I bother to visit any more. Thanks.

Not to diminish Van's commitment and input to this thread, but it was Mike who started it, so thank you both.

And that's why I don't and won't have a boss ... I probably should, given my roundedness ... but to miss out on Devil's Food Cake Day is the biggest SHAME of them all! :)

Heh, today is the first cloudy day in Portland, so no sun for me either!

I have been delinquent in coming here lately, that's going to change. I can only type comments that basically mean "total system failure" so many times......

And, all the stress of moving, selling the house slowly, and all the eating out and and lack of exercise......I desperately need some weight loss. So, no cake for me.

Though, last night, we did get dessert for the 2nd time in three days of living here and eating out.....

We've got some goodies to end the week on....

Today is National Be a Millionaire Day! It's supposed to be a day to prepare yourself to be a millionaire, but very few of us will get that chance. I say act like you're a millionaire anyways, and treat yourself today! Go rent a luxury sports car, buy those shoes you've always wanted. The world is your oyster!

Today is also National Pizza Party Day! A classic choice for kid's birthday parties, and also a good place to meet people for dinner as adults!

Today is also National Pick Strawberries Day! One of the luxuries of growing up in the country is having a garden. We had a few rows of strawberries, and they were delicious!

Today is also National Bike to Work Day! Or for Mike, since he's now in Portland, today is Friday....

Finally, today is National Endangered Species Day! My favorite endangered species is the panda...

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Today is National Salt Water Taffy Day! Top taffy flavors, ranked:

- Strawberry

- Raspberry

- Caramel Apple

- Watermelon

- Chocolate Chip

- Getting hit by a bus

- Buttered Popcorn

Today is also National Lucky Penny Day! The penny should become obsolete IMO. Not worth continuing to produce pennies when they are nearly worthless in the economy. Perhaps the Twins should litter their pockets of lucky pennies to get out of this slump!

I save pennies. Not sure why, but I do. I see one on the ground, I pick it up. And every so often I empty my purse of them. Right now I've got a couple of huge bowls full of them. I know I have some really old ones in there ... that will take some time going through them all.

Today is also Margarita Monday. I'll miss the first part, if not all, of the game tonight. :)

Already done in some parts of the world, although some might argue it also makes no sense for us to continue to produce the Loonie since it's nearly worthless as well.

Oh, I don't know ... just think of all the products that would be rounded up from $x.99 to $y (or worse, $y.95) ... extrapolate that over every item of every purchase you'll ever make again, and you might end up losing quite a bit out of the deal.

I used to pick up pennies (and other coins) out of the street, but after a while I decided I was too old for that. If ChiTown can do it, though, what the heck ... the only ones I save, though, are the Canadian pennies ... I have a feeling those are harder to come by in Chicago. And I have a buffalo nickel from the '30's.

I run across a Canadian penny or two here and there. Of course, I lived there once, so I think I still have some 'residual' change left over from those days.

I look for wheat pennies specifically. I've even been given wheat pennies in change before. Wheat pennies are now worth 2 cents, I believe. Maybe by the time I retire they'll be up to 3 cents apiece.

Back in my youth when I used to practice coin magic, the thing to get was an English Penny. It was about the same same as a U.S. half dollar, and there were several fun effects that used the two.

As I recall, there was also a brass Chinese coin (I don't recall the name) that had a hole in the center and was also that same approximate size, so again used to make delightful surprises.

There were a few things you could do with a U.S. penny and a dime, but the size constraint made them difficult to see, of course.

Here's some goodies for a Wednesday!

Today is National Wine Day! I've been on quite the wine kick lately. Trying to do things classy instead of beer all the time. What's your wine of choice?

Today is also National Brown-Bag-It Day! A day where you're supposed to bring in your lunch to save some money. More than often I don't time these days well, but today I brought in a lunch! Buffalo chicken salad in case you're wondering.

Today is also National Missing Children's Day. I can't imagine anything worse for a parent than to lose their children....

Finally, today is National Senior Health & Fitness Day! Can someone make sure Chief gets his exercise for the day? :)

I hate wine, I don't need to cut back on it, but add more beer.

Ok Chief, try this.

That may be too advanced to do. I was thinking more along the lines of water aerobics... Or the Exercise Block.

I'm all in favor of cutting back on whine, but in general I prefer mead. Since that's a bit hard to come by (at least the good stuff) I usually get beer. An occasional brandy or liqueur are nice.

Wine when I go Italian or French cusine, which is not that often these days. Mimosa's at brunch.
