Today is National Jelly Bean Day! I can't say that I have jelly beans all that often, but when I do, I go with Skittles jelly beans...

Today is also National Girl Scout Leader's Day! Tis' the season for Girl Scouts hanging out in front of stores slinging boxes of cookies. Girl Scout Cookies. ranked:

- Tagalongs (seriously, I could eat a box of those things in one day)
- Thin Mints (throw them in the freezer and they're even better)

- Samoas

- Shortbread

- Walking into oncoming traffic

- Lemonades

Today is also National Earth Day! So make sure you take the time to recycle, reuse, and plant a dang tree in your backyard!

Fiiiirst of all, more like National Child Labor Day, am I right you guys? Those lousy "leaders" have been getting fat on the backs of little girls for too long.

...OK, that didn't come out very well. But, the sentiment stands!

Second of all,

 National Earth Day

That's a weird group of words.

Sending small girls to wander the streets with large amounts of cash.....................what could go wrong?

We've got a couple of goodies for a Tuesday...

Today is National Pretzel Day! So go get yourself a pretzel with beer cheese today at lunch....

Today is also National Kids and Pets Day! Wasn't it national dog day not too long ago? Either way, give your pet and your kiddos something special today!

Today is also National Richter Scale Day! A day to celebrate the birthday of Charles Richter who invented, you guessed it, the Richter scale... What do you get for compensation for a tool that most every meteorologist/scientist uses? Has anyone ever experienced being in an earthquake before?

Today is also National Help a Horse Day! So if you live near a farm, or drive by a farm with horses, stop by and help them today. My cousins are way more country than I am.. They live on a farm with 4 horses. I've rode a horse 1 time... It was not a fun experience.

Finally, today is National Audubon Day! A day to celebrate the life of John James Audubon. This is more in birdwatcher or Hrbowski's wheel-house. They can explain his significance more...

Too many things to celebrate. So I'll choose the Richter one ... but only because I've been in an earthquake before ... if you want to call it that. The epicenter was quite a bit downstate, but I did feel it, in the middle of the night, in my condo, on the 11th floor of a midrise building. (Midrise in Chicago is about 20 floors.) It was a very gentle shaking, very gentle. But it was enough to wake me and my cat. And afterwards, I was wide awake, afraid my building was going to collapse on me, which is funny, because it was hardly anything; and most in my area didn't even feel it.

Reading the baseball threads gives me the tremors.

But I do remember back in my youth when I was studying geophysics at the U of M spending some time watching the seismometers and seismographs deep in Pillsbury Hall, and using time differences between S-waves and P-waves to compute distance from the epicenter of a quake in South America.

This used formula developed by Dr. Richter and his associate Dr. Gutenberg at CalTech.

Must have been some epic keggers after those sessions :).

Soft, warm pretzels with hot mustard and a good beer are heavenly.

It's been a while since I had a really good pretzel. The last one I had was at an Austin Stars hockey game. Unfortunately the pretzel I had must have been in that heating contraption too long, and the outside got too hard to chew.

Of all the days to share this anecdote, you choose National Pretzel Day?

That's a sad tale Van. There's this craft brew pub I go to when I'm in Edmonton (which is now) called Beer Revolution.....best........ pretzels.......ever.

And many great beers to pair them.

Happy Wednesday!

Today is National Babe Ruth Day! Did the Illuminati plan on Berrios' first start occurring on Babe Ruth Day??

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyFaLT-L2uk

Today is also National Tell a Story Day! It doesn't matter if you're 5 or 55, everyone loves a good story! My mom found some old short stories that I wrote in elementary school while spring cleaning, scanned them, and sent it my way. They were stories of my stuffed animal monkeys going on epic adventures together... I'm actually working on rewriting them now in my spare time for fun. Who knows, maybe it'll be worth something some day! Who says that Curious George can be the only monkey in the business?!

Today is also National Prime Rib Day! I don't know about you, but I'm very skeptical about ordering prime rib at a restaurant if it's on the menu.. That's one of those meats, IMO, where if it's not a good cut, or prepared badly, it's nearly inedible.

I still fondly remember a story written for a school project when I was around 8-9.

"The Cake that Devoured Cleveland."

A mysterious spaceship landed on a hill.

From inside a cake came out.

Then it devoured Cleveland.

And then it went back.

Epic, I tell you, epic. I won't try to reproduce the illustrations here.

Perhaps young J.O. will be that cake today.

There's a place near me that makes prime rib burgers. Omg, are they ever tasty!
