Happy Monday. Hope everyone's feeling good after a 3 game winning streak!

Today is National Animal Crackers Day! Nothing says childhood like animal crackers and juice before nap time...

Today is also National Lineman Appreciation Day! Not the lineman in football... The people that keep the power on for us. Could you imagine going back in time 300-400 years ago and not having electricity for everything we do? I mean, we could still have a Twins Daily, but it'd be pretty hard sending letters back and forth as replies... I'd be sitting at home livid until someone replies back about why Max Kepler isn't playing :)

Finally, today is National Columnist's Day! So be nice to Sid Hartman, Patrick Reusse, LaVelle E. Neal, and Phil Miller just for one day...

Meh.......Tomorrow is national garlic day, one of the most essential ingredients in cooking, maybe after salt and water it is third (or maybe onion is third)......

And it keeps the vampires at bay.

Happy Wednesday!

Today is National Cheddar Fries Day! Who doesn't love melted cheese on top of their fries? If it also has bacon bits, jalapenos, chive, or sour cream on top, even better....

Today is also National Pineapple Upside Down Cake Day! I think I've had this once or twice before, but it does sound good this morning!

Today is also National Lima Bean Respect Day! I can say I do not respect the lima bean enough, because I rarely have them. Unless they're in a soup or something like that.

Finally, today is National Look Alike Day! I day to dress up like your favorite celebrity.. For Mike, all he has to do is wake up in the morning to look like Chris Hemsworth....

omg ... cheddar fries! What's not to love about that??? Although leave all the bacon and other bits off, please.

Pineapple upside down cake is good, and fairly easy to make. But I rarely partake or bake for some reason.

Lima beans? Ick, ish, etc. Nothing more needs to be said about that.

Look alike ... I guess my closest look-alike is my grandmother (long deceased) ... okay, wait ... I look like her when she was young ... not how she is now, deceased and all.

Glad you cleared that up.

I could never figure out who I looked like until I saw this picture of a baby aye-aye a year or so ago.

Prying fingers, alert ears, smudgy eyeliner, and all. :P

^ that actually does a pretty good job of summing me up, in general.

So cheddar fries are like the greatest thing ever to you but we add gravy and call it poutine and it offends your delicate sensibilities?

Ok lady.

Lima beans are gross, easily the worst of the legume family.

I've come to the realisation I don't care much for pineapple, except that pineapple they serve at those Brazilian BBQ joints, covered with brown sugar and grilled. Those are damn fine.

Happy Thursday.

Today is National Chocolate Covered Cashew Day! This is the best way to consume cashews, covered in milk chocolate, or better yet, dark chocolate....

Today is also National High Five Day! So even though the Twins lost last night, give someone a high five!

Today is also National Poem in your Back Pocket Day! A day where you're supposed to share a favorite poem of yours to spread happiness and joy. What's your favorite poem?

Today is also National Kindergarten Day! Some days I wish I could go back to the Kindergarten days... Coloring in the lines, learning how to share toys, nap time in the afternoon.... Ahh, the good ol' days.

Finally, today is National Yellow Bat Day! It's a day to celebrate the 101st Airborne Division who served in the Vietnam War. For anyone who dedicated their lives to protect us, thank you for your service. You are a bigger hero than I will ever be.

You mean, like ...

Violets are blue,

Roses are red,

The sidewalk is cracked,

And so is your head.

:)

But I have liked this one, too:

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

(ee cummings)

Reminiscing about the good ol' days already, eh Van?

Poetry is probably the area of literature I am most lacking in - and that's terrible since I hardly read as it is. My favorite poet is Maya Angelou, but I'd be hard pressed to pick any one of her poems I like the best, so I'll go with this poem I heard Garrison Keillor read on The Writer's Almanac while I was convalescing from an eye injury I sustained during an assault by an impertinent rubber band.

Applesauce
by Ted Kooser

I liked how the starry blue lid
of that saucepan lifted and puffed,
then settled back on a thin
hotpad of steam, and the way
her kitchen filled with the warm,
wet breath of apples, as if all
the apples were talking at once,
as if they'd come cold and sour
from chores in the orchard,
and were trying to shoulder in
close to the fire. She was too busy
to put in her two cents' worth
talking to apples. Squeezing
her dentures with wrinkly lips,
she had to jingle and stack
the bright brass coins of the lids
and thoughtfully count out
the red rubber rings, then hold
each jar, to see if it was clean,
to a window that looked out
through her back yard into Iowa.
And with every third or fourth jar
she wiped steam from her glasses,
using the hem of her apron,
printed with tiny red sailboats
that dipped along with leaf-green
banners snapping, under puffs
of pale applesauce clouds
scented with cinnamon and cloves,
the only boats under sail
for at least two thousand miles.

A spot of Vogon poetry...

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturations are to me,
As plurdled gabbleblotchits,
On a lurgid bee,
That mordiously hath blurted out,
Its earted jurtles,
Into a rancid festering confectious organ squealer. [drowned out by moaning and screaming]
Now the jurpling slayjid agrocrustles,
Are slurping hagrilly up the axlegrurts,
And living glupules frart and slipulate,
Like jowling meated liverslime,
Groop, I implore thee, my foonting turling dromes,
And hooptiously drangle me,
With crinkly bindlewurdles,
Or else I shall rend thee in the gobberwarts with my blurglecruncheon,
See if I don't.
