Still outside the lunar orbit, but close enough to put the heebie jeebies into Congress, who ran a simulated disaster recovery plan in case of an impact. I think there was something about building a wall on the Mexican border there...

Yeah maybe I should move guac to #1. Normally it's very consistent and good no matter where you get it....

As a queso aficionado, some restaurants really don't know what they're doing with queso, while other restaurants knock it out of the park. Too much inconsistency to be #1.

Happy Wednesday!

Today is National Chia Day! Did anyone ever own or buy their kids a Chia pet? Throwback to the 90's y'all!

Today is also National Chip & Dip Day! Best chip and dip combos, ranked:

- Chips and Queso

- Chips and Guacamole
- Chips and buffalo chicken dip
- Chips and Salsa

- Chips and 7 layer salad
- Chips and Artichoke Dip

Today is also National Near Miss Day! A huge asteroid almost collided with the Earth back in 1989. Craig is here to tell us more....

Finally, Today is National PUPPY Day! Who doesn't love puppies? This is my dream dog to get one day....

Um, I think you need to define your chips. For instance, I don't think I'd use salt and vinegar potato chips with queso ... just sayin.' One dip I had recently, which I'm going to try and replicate, purchased at Target of all places ... roasted red pepper and feta ... not sure if it was one of their Archer Farms brands or Market Pantry. It was really more of a spread ... are spreads and dips different?

And my family has a fab recipe for shrimp dip. Yum!

Guac is number 1 for me.

But, I fondly remember the onion dip/sour cream combo as a kid.

I haven't seen it or looked for it recently, but there was a Greek Yogurt Onion dip out there that was really good.

Was the roasted red pepper and feta a hummus dip? That sounds good, now I'm going to have to be on the lookout for that at Target.

No, it wasn't. Look for it at Target ... probably in the deli area. It was really good. They don't have it here, but we don't have full grocery stores at our Targets in Chicago. Anyway ... the recipes I looked at all seemed pretty easy and were all basically the same ... roasted peppers, feta and olive oil. Bam! Instant deliciousness!

Intersting. I love the jarred queso but never order queso when I'm out.

Who in town serves one of the out of the park quesos?

I wish I could tell you some good spots in Minneapolis, but it's getting to be too long since I lived there. Here in Austin, the best queso I've had is at Torchy's Tacos.. Very solid queso cheese, with green chilies and black beans on the bottom to mix in... Topped with their signature hot sauce, chopped cilantro, and cojita cheese.. so good.

One thing I'd like to point out is that puppies grow into dogs, and you have to be prepared for that or they'll end up in a shelter.

My family has four dogs. The first of these we got when I was twelve, about a year and a half after the last dog died. My sister trained her, but I helped and did a lot of research about German Shepherds and training dogs in general. I wanted to be a dog trainer/breeder when I grew up ... not so much anymore, but luckily I was prepared to take the brunt of the load when my sister got her own puppy and didn't want the commitment that came with it. I was fourteen when I got my own puppy; she was/is the smartest dog. She actually knows what German Shepherds, Schnauzers, and Aussies are ... Hrb was reading a book about Eleanor Roosevelt when Clover was about three or four months old, and he told me he wanted to show me a picture of her German Shepherd. We were sitting on the floor, and Clover came running over to see and lay down between us, looking at the pictures as Hrb turned the pages. When he got to the German Shepherd, she jumped forward and put her paw on the picture as if she was pointing it out to me ... everyone else insists it was a coincidence, but I'm convinced she knew what she was up to. Dogs aren't stupid, especially not this one.

Unfortunately, I don't have any puppy pictures of Cloves on my computer, but I took a picture of her last fall. This is my dream puppy/dog.

I have two puppies currently, both acquired on Valentine's Day, one a poodle, who is now roughly 3 months old, and the other a pug, who is now roughly 4 months old. The idea of training two puppies at once was bordering insanity, but now we are essentially one step away from being approved to be foster parents. That would really add to the insanity of the household!

I've had a few dogs in my life, but one of the things I made clear to my wife was that I preferred a "mutt" if at all possible. I love the pug, and he has taken to his Braves name (Maddux) and even has already taken to sitting in my lap to watch Braves minor league games as I write up scouting reports, but by far the best dog I ever had was a mutt, and we had her on our farm for almost 15 years. If I had more property or lived out of town further, I'd love to have an outdoor-only dog as I grew up with!

This is the pug:

Do you guys miss the state fair? Me too... You can pretend it's the state fair today with this national holiday.....

National Something on a Stick Day! Whether it's kabobs on the grill, corn dogs, pronto pups, or deep fried snickers, put something on a stick today and eat it!

Today is also National Black Forest Cake Day! I did not know this cake existed, and it's right in my wheelhouse. Layers of chocolate cake with whipped cream and cherries in between each layer! Topped with chocolate shavings. Sign me up...

Today is also National Weed Appreciation Day! Not that kind of weed.... The dandelion kind! This is the time of year to get your yard in shape and get rid of the weeds. Before you do that, take some time to appreciate them!

No, do not use poison, just to have grass only. One of the worst parts of merica.

Friends of mine once treated their lawn. They did it themselves. And got the wrong product. And killed all their grass. And, further, had to get the dirt treated to remove any further damage. Just go natural.

I still remember in my elementary school days, my dad would get me going by saying your mom is needing more dandelions to put in the vase, you should go pick some! Little did I know then that I was doing him a favor by picking those dandelions from the yard so he didn't have to!

Okay ... so ... food ... more specifically beverages. I'm not much of a drinker of things, other than water, milk and iced tea. I'll drink a soda if there are no other options, but I tend not to partake of those much anymore. Juices tend to be too sweet, too concentrated. But lately I'm just hooked on steaz iced green teas, specifically the peach flavored. Has anyone else tried these? Yum!

I have not tried that yet. Sounds good though! Like you ChiTown, I'm a very boring non-alcoholic drinker... Gave up on soda (other than as a mixer) a couple of years ago.. I'll usually make my own flavored water to spice things up!

Today is National Mom & Pop Business Owners Day! I love small restaurants and shops that succeed. My favorite pizza joint is a mom and pop shop in Austin, where they make New York style pizza pies along with fantastic sandwiches...

Today is also National Lemon Chiffon Cake Day! It's described as a light, spring time cake.. Almost like angel food cake? If that's the case, I am on board to eat it.

My wife and I had a Mom & Pop IT consulting business for over 20 years. We may bring it back after she graduates.

After working for yourself for a long time the corporate world really bites.

No chiffon cakes for this guy if I can help it. Actually, pie > cake.

My wife and I are about to open a window treatment business, in a city we don't yet live in, with no experience in the field! yay for being broke for a while!

Well, she will do that, I'll keep my super fun corporate job for a while, so we have money and insurance.

I love window treatments! I especially love to use them in non-traditional ways. Well, not really so non-traditional ... but instead of doors ... good way to add color and interest with a drape or Roman shade.
