Food and other such holidays

Couple of goodies to start the week...

Today is National Be Heard Day! If you work for, or own, a small business, today is your day! So what if there's big corporations, you do things better!

Today is also National Cereal Day! You can thank my generation (the Millenials) for the decrease in sales for cereal. Apparently it's too much work to put cereal in a bowl, and god forbid, clean the bowl when you're done. I love cereal!

My favorite cereals without taking into consideration health choices, ranked:
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- Life (Cinnamon or Original Flavor)
- Frosted Flakes

- Rice Crispies (with sugar, and bananas sliced on top)

- Special K (also with sugar, and fruit on top)

- Honey Nut Cheerios

- Corn Pops

- Getting struck by a car

- Grape Nuts

- Wheaties

Today is also National Crown Roast of Pork Day! I don't believe I've ever had pork presented that way, but if it's pork, I will try it.

I just choose other things than cereal, nothing to do with time nor cleaning. I always preferred stuff I could add to when I was growing up, though, like Wheaties or Grape Nuts or Cheerios to add fruit or cinnamon or stuff to. Hence, I'm a big fan of oatmeal.

When I was a kid, this stuff was the !$%

Another favorite:

Now that I'm older, I've matured. More health-conscious now. So with that in mind my new favorite is Market Pantry's Blueberry Crunch. If you ever go to Target and they have it in stock (sells out fast at mine), buy it. Thank me later.

I love cereal, but I don't eat it for breakfast as much anymore. If I'm hungry when I get off from work at night, I will sometimes have a small bowl. Or have it for supper sometimes, too. Or, a small bowl for dessert, if it's one of those sugary varieties that I don't often buy but sometimes can't help myself. But my 'go to' cereals are:

Oatmeal Crisp (Crunchy Almond flavor)

Simply Granola (Honey, Oats and Almond flavor) (usually have with yogurt but sometimes milk)

Trader Joe's Toasted Oatmeal Flakes

Cinnamon Life

Oatmeal

Grape Nuts (mostly eat this with yogurt with some cinnamon added)

There's an oaty pattern there, I noticed.

For sugary stuff I'll buy Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops or Reese's Puffs. I used to add Captain Crunch in there, but it's too rough on the roof of my mouth. And, again, the sugary stuff, I rarely buy anymore.

As a kid ... Quisp! :)

No mention of Cinnamon Toast Crunch from anyone here? This just makes me sad.. That was the cereal that I could eat by the box as a teenager.

CTC is a Hall of Famer, no question. Career WAR similar to Count Chocula and Golden Grahams IMO.

Don't each as much cereal as I used, besides my kids get mad at me when I eat it all. I pretty much lived on the stuff when I was a kid though, lots of faves.

Honeycomb

Sugar Crisp

Lucky Charms

Cocoa Puffs

Fruity Pebbles

Frosted Flakes

Raisin Bran

Boo Berry

Alpha Bits

Sugar Smacks

Corn Pops

Golden Grahams

Frosted Mini Wheats

Corn Flakes (with a healthy dose of added sugar)

Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Capt'n Crunch just had too high a sog rating for my liking, sorry Van.

Nowadays it's pretty much Greek yogurt with a teaspoon of honey or cherry jam with some brad buds or granola mixed in or some Raisin Oatmeal Crisp.

Jesus we're getting some good national holidays this week....

Today is National Crab Meat Day! Are you folks fans of crab cakes? I do enjoy that, but my favorite is steamed crab...

Today is also National Meatball Day! I'm not sure why they would have crab meat and meatball on the same day, but if you want to get your fill of meat, today is your day apparently.

Today is also National Get Over It Day! So with the mods permission, I'd like to yell GET OVER IT to everyone who hasn't accepted that Sano is going to play RF :)

Today is also National Barbie Day! ChiTown and Always, were you collectors of Barbies? One of my younger cousins (I think they're still cousins when your cousin has a baby, right?) is 7-ish and she loves them. For the love of God though, please don't get plastic surgery to look like Barbie.. That's one of those clicks I wish I could take back. Terrifying!

Um, why are you only asking me and always if we were Barbie collectors? That's pretty sexist. GET OVER IT, it is. I know a lot of male collectors. If you are asking if I had a Barbie, yes, I did. I recall breaking one of her legs and using masking tape to make a cast. You'd think I'd have ended up an orthopedic doctor, but no, I became a musician.

Meatballs? I prefer the Swedish variety over the Italian variety.

Crab meat, yum! Crab and corn chowder, crab-stuffed anything, crab legs, crab in sushi, etc., but I'm not a fan of crab cakes, not sure why.

The good vibes keep on going today....

Today is National Blueberry Popover Day! Don't believe I've ever had these, but I'm more than willing to try them. "Popovers are light, airy rolls that puff up when baked, popping over the edge of the tin. They can be filled with custards, creams and fruits for a sweet treat, especially blueberries." Sounds de-lish to me!

Today is also National Mario Day! Mario's one of those classic video games that brings generations together! I have fond memories of playing Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo and Nintendo64 with my childhood friends... Even kept the tradition going in college with a drinking game called "Drunk Racing" clever title I know. The premise of the game was you needed to finish your drink before crossing the finish line...

Today is also National Pack your Lunch Day! Ironically this is the one day where I didn't pack my lunch for work....

Finally today is National Women HIV/AIDS Awareness Day! Hopefully sooner than later this disease will be a thing of the past....

A few decent holidays to end the week on....

Today is National Promposal Day! A day where high school kids come up with their way to ask their friend/crush to the prom.. Let's just say I wasn't very smooth with my ways of asking girls to the prom. The one that sticks out is I asked a crush of mine who played on the volleyball team.. I wrote "Will you go to the prom with me?" on a volleyball, met up with her at a mutual friend's house, dressed up in volleyball attire, and spiked it at her. Not sure why I spiked it at the time, probably just nerves I suppose. Either way she said yes! What's your memorable prom proposal story?

Today is also National Worship of Tools Day! Considering I live in an apartment, I don't really have the opportunity to do much of handy person work... Though I'd love to get more crafty and handy in the future.

Today is also National Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day! Never thought of that combination before, but I'm sure it's tasty!

Finally, today is National Johnny Appleseed Day! For a long time I thought that he was an urban legend, but he's actually a real person!

Good day for me to reflect...

I actually took a blind date to my senior prom. I went to 5 proms in my high school career, but my own senior prom, my date ended up backing out last moment due to an issue her new boyfriend had with her going with me as a friend. One of my good friends had a girl friend who was going to be unable to attend her own senior prom, so the connection was made. It was a good time.

I'm quite proud of my own handyman work recently. I've recently built an access door for the hallway next to the bathroom after a leak required some of the drywall to be removed in order to get to the leak. I also have been utilizing the peg board design in the sides of my garage to organize tools, garden equipment, and even a huge ladder. Most proudly perhaps, I am doing all the safety and security work in the house to prepare for our "inspection" to become foster parents - hanging child safety doors, putting on safety locks to the hot tub, putting up a protective gate around the fire place, etc. Anyone knowing me would know this is certainly not my cup of tea, so it's been a learning experience and one I've taken a lot of pride in actually not screwing up TOO badly!
