A lot of choices today for National Holidays....

Today is National "DADGUM That's Good!" Day! Not only is it a southern phrase, it's the name of a cookbook sold by John McLemore. I think to celebrate, just cook something for dinner tonight and yell out that phrase....

Today is also National Peanut Butter Lover's Day! I've been on a peanut butter toast craze for breakfast the last couple of weeks. Crunchy, creamy, it's all good to me.

Today is also National Pig Day! I will celebrate my including bacon in one of my meals for the day... I find it funny how much of a fraud teacup piglets are. One of the last Miss Vanimal's was obsessed to get a teacup piglet. I said it may look cute now, but it's not going to be so cute when it's 350 lbs. in 5 years.

Today is also National Horse Protection Day! Would you like to adopt a horse? Today may be the best day to do so... A horse wouldn't quite fit in my apartment today.

PB toast is the best! It's my 'go to' meal when I just can't decide what I want or when I don't feel like fixing anything. Try sprinkling just a little cinnamon sugar over it. Oh man, DADGUM that's good! I seek out recipes using PB. My favorite is peanut sesame noodles. Yum! And Trader Joe's dark chocolate PB cups! Omg! Yay for peanut butter!!!

As for the pig day, pigs are amazing creatures. Check out Estelle the Wonder Pig on FB. As for eating pig, I'm not a huge fan of pork. I have bacon maybe twice a year; bbq baby backs maybe twice a year. That's it for pork consumption, but I do like really cute pig videos. :)

Peanut butter has been vital to my 75-pound weight loss since November (and still going). PB and carrots or celery has become my "sweet" snack of choice in that time, and it's been a big help. Love me some good peanut butter.

'Good' being the word here. I've tried some PBs that are not good.

Curious what are everyone's favorites?

I usually avoid any with high fructose corn syrup in it. I will eat some sweetened PBs, but only if the ingredient is sugar and not hfcs. Sometimes I'll try the 'organic' or 'all natural' varieties to very mixed reviews. You'd think that those would be of the most peanuttiest and bestest out there, but sometimes really not.

Pork is the most delicious meat there is. Mmmm, Pig.  Bacon, pork roast, ribs of all sorts, chops, sausage, etc.

Mmmm, Pig.

Ish.

:)

Just dusting off my icks and ishes. Game threads will be starting up soon.

I went through a pb phase late last year, I rediscovered crunchy and couldn't stop eating it. It was odd because I don't have a particular affinity for pb, it has since abated. I do however love Reeses peanut butter cups, my kids get really mad at me when I steal all of the ones they get at Halloween :).

Dadgum isn't a part of the vernacular up here, unless one of us is doing a stereotypical imitation of Southern Americans. I do recall hearing it over and over again for quite awhile when my kids were into the movie Cars, that damn Mater the tow truck wouldn't stop saying it.

Next time you are in MN, stop at a Trader Joe's and buy both of their milk and dark chocolate PB cups, then do a taste test comparison with Reese's.

I also make cookies using mini PB cups. The Hershey's kiss cookies, instead of a kiss use PB cups.

Then you will LOVE these ... and will also be thankful you don't have a Trader Joe's nearby. They now sell them in these small 'grab and go' packs right by the checkout lanes. Is hard to not impulse buy those on your way through the line.

A couple of goodies for today...

Today is National Dr. Suess Day! AKA Reading Across America Day. So pick up a GD book every now and again, people.

Today is also National Banana Cream Pie Day! That's what I'm talking about.

Today is also National Old Stuff Day! Get your spring cleaning in line, and get rid of some of your old stuff. I've been working on my own spring cleaning. My philosophy is if a shirt or pants have not been taken off the hanger in nearly a year, it's time to get rid of it.

Getting rid of stuff is really quite freeing......

I like banana cream pie, but if it didn't exist, I don't think I'd notice its absence.

Of course I will be reading today!

I'm sure you're embracing the getting rid of stuff if you're anticipating a move to the west coast. It really was quite liberating back when I was packing for my move to TX... It's crazy how much random junk we accumulate after being settled in a house or apartment for years.

Yes, about half the stuff is already gone, including thousands of dollars of D&D stuff......close to 10K so far in that alone has been sold. 2 bookshelves left, still deciding whether to keep it or not......

They don't fetch much, unfortunately. I just ripped up old ones, and scanned in articles I thought I might read, and recycled them. Like, 20 years worth......

So is it the hardback books that are good sellers, or did you have miniatures you let go?

Miniatures, books, box sets, terrain, the Dragon Magazine CDs (which fetched less than I'd hoped). But, mostly the box sets and minis and some terrain make good money. The books make enough to be a bit of gravy on the side. A friend does all the ebay work, he gets 20%.

I have 5 large pieces of terrain that need to be sold locally, need to get on that. One is a 5x3x3 foot model of Helm's deep I made with one of my sons....

I will say that I saved certain clothes that I wanted to be able to work back into as I lost weight, and that has been fun to hit my first major level of those clothes recently...so sometimes there are things that you'd like to hold onto.

Yeah that's understandable. And congrats on your weight loss so far! 75 lbs is a HUGE accomplishment. Kudos to you.

Thanks! It's been work, but it's been fun to enjoy the results, but I have plenty more to go. I've gotten rid of a ton of clothes, but there were certain clothes I wanted to keep to work back into.

Wow, 75lbs and still a lot more to go? I don't mean this in a mean spirited way but you must be one big dude.

You played football for the Gophers, correct?

Congrats, keep fighting the good fight, your health is everything.

Yes, I did half a lifetime ago, crazy enough. It's crazy that the eating I had to do just to maintain weight for football was what put on the first major batch of weight after eye surgeries ended my ability to even exercise at all for almost two full years.

A few holidays to end the week on...

Today is National Hug a GI Day! So if anyone sees Chief today, give him a hug. That goes for others in the service..

Today is also National Pound Cake Day! There's not a cake out there that I won't eat...

Today is also National Employee Appreciation Day! Today may be your day to ask for a raise! Give it a shot.

Today is also National Grammar Day! So you's probably should do use good grammar.

Finally, today is National Unplugging Day! A day where you're supposed to not use your electronics or devices. In the spirit of the holiday, it's time to shut down TD and go outside...

I don't know no GI's but if I see one I'll hug them anyways.

I love pound cake but I ain't gonna eat none today.

I have over 200 employees I'm responsible for across three provinces so showing them all appreciation is going to be impossible especially since it's unplugged day and I can't send them all an email.

I used my best grammar in this here post.
