The Fall (netflix)

OK, so I finished up watching the X files on Netflix (speaking of which, they are spinning this back up in January) and was peaked by another Gillian Anderson series called The Fall.  It's pretty interesting.  It's a Netflix original, so an FYI there.  It's about a serial killer/cop hunt, but it explores it from all sides, so you see the killer's family life along with lives of those investigating him and the lives of those attached to the victims.  Really interesting.  Check it out.

Thanks for the recommendation. I kind of feel tapped out now with all of the good television shows wrapping up completely, and with the apparent faceplant of True Detective Season Two. I feel like my t.v. life is stuck between waiting for The Walking Dead and really, really waiting for Arrested Development to continue on its merry way . . .

And with Lynch dropping out of the return of Twin Peaks, it only got worse. Will check The Fall out (I started re-watching the X-Files as well not that long ago--and I actually originally didn't really see much of the first two seasons back in the day).

I missed the last two, though I have to admit after rewatching them on Netflix that I really didn't miss out on much.  The series took a big dive when Duchovney left.

Speaking of which, X files is being rebooted in January with a 6 episode mini-series on Fox.  All the big characters are in it.

But that said, I finished up The Fall and was very impressed.  BBC did a good job on that and I'm looking forward to season 3 release later this year.  Speaking of good Netflix shows, anyone here check out Sense8?

Lynch is back on board, and filming begins next month.

As far as Netflix, eagerly awaiting Jessica Jones.

Since Jessica Jones came up....anyone with an opinion on Daredevil?  I'm thinking it's my next binge-watch target.

Savor it. Especially the fight choreography and D'Onofrio's performance. Actually the entire cast is quite good.

Just finished watching The Fall. Excellent. Thanks for recommending it.

If you liked The Fall, try to get your hands on Broadchurch. It's the British show that was later adapted to an American version, Gracepoint.

I think The Fall is probably better but Broadchurch is a whodunit that doesn't make you want to smash your TV because it's so bloody stupid (eg. The Killing). It leads you on a (mostly) logical breadcrumb trail and doesn't fall into the trap of beating the viewer over the head with a never-ending series of red herrings.

Broadchurch season 1 is available on Netflix; hopefully they get season 2 although their falling out with BBC America may prevent that.

Couldn't agree more about The Killing.. Worst detective work of ALL TIME. How they were able to revive that show twice, I'll never understand.

They better figure their S out on that one. Luther and Sherlock are elite shows on BBC, I'd hate to miss out on new episodes through Netflix.

Ah, okay. I watched Broadchurch right after it released in Britain and it wasn't available on Netflix... I can't remember where I found it. Maybe iTunes.

The American version of The Killing and the British Broadchurch are a great comparison point for why British TV succeeds where American TV fails. Broadchurch is eight episodes. It gets in, tells a story, and then gets the **** out. If you tried to turn Broadchurch into a 13 episode season, it'd turn into a steaming pile of boring misdirection, just like The Killing.

Also, take a look at Whitechapel. While the later seasons go off the rails a bit, the first season is pretty enjoyable and only three (long) episodes per season.

They did just add Season 8 of Dr. Who, and Sherlock is still there and up to date with the making-of specials. So maybe all is not lost.

I would like to get Fawlty Towers, and maybe the 60's Avengers and The Prisoner back.

I may be the only one who didn't like The Fall - I'm sorry but Jamie Dornan can not act his way out of a paper bag and that ruined it for me.

I don't think you're the only one. There seems to be a lot of complaining about the acting and the ending online.

I was all in through the first two seasons. Season 3 was a big letdown IMO. Primal Fear anyone? Paul Spector = Aaron Stampler.. Its uncanny.

I know the "real" storyline was about mysogyny and girl power and whatnot but it didn't seem to resolve any of those questions either. Unless I just don't get it.
