Article: Game Thread Twins@Indians 5/8 6:10PM

Recommended Posts

Tonight... It's the Twins visiting the Cleveland Indians.

In the past 10 games... The Twins are the 2nd hottest team in baseball. Only the Cardinals are hotter.

St. Louis is 9-1 and the Twins are 8-2... after that... It don't matter.

The Indians on the other hand are 4-6 in their last 10 games and if the Season ended tomorrow... The Indians would be drafting third.

Why is this happening to the Indians... Well... Nick Swisher ain't around... that might have something to do with it.

After that I'm stumped.

Here are some Things to Think About:

1. Getting Healthy -- We all remember the 1-6 start to the Twins season. We were curious to see what new manager Paul Molitor was all about. Most of us were expecting more of the same but the season was just getting started so some of us... held a little optimism and we wanted to be optimistic... at least for a little while. Well... That 1-6 start scared the crap out of all of us. HOW? Did we even win one game??? That was what we were thinking. OH MY GOD!!! it's going to be worse was what we were thinking... The OF can't get to routine balls... We haven't scored a run all year. The Bullpen looks like it was cobbled together with duct tape. You all remember that... Right? Even the most optimistic of us were saying Uncle and it was only 7 games into the season. Then it started getting better... We were 1-6 and then we won the next two games against the Royals to become 3-6 and then came the Indians. In my opinion... this is when the Twins started to show us that it was getting better... This is when we started getting healthy... not physically so much... but mentally. It's one thing to win 2 of 3 from the Royals... but can you take 2 of 3 from the next team up? We did!!! The Indians were struggling and we took advantage of that and to me... It was the moment when we started getting healthy... So... I just want to say Thank you to the Indians... Because you were playing crappy baseball... You gave our team the much needed confidence to start beating teams and now we all feel a little better... (Yeah I know... There are still some Randy Quaid types still out there) but we do feel a little better on average.

2. Cleveland -- This may surprise some of you. Cleveland is the 2nd largest city in Ohio. Columbus is the actual largest city in Ohio. Now before you argue with me... Just take a second to trust me... Because it is true. Here's why... City Population... Columbus just hasn't been as skillful in swallowing up suburbs like Cleveland did. The entire metro of Cleveland is bigger and that's why they have actual professional sports. We all know that the Blue Jackets don't count as professional. (Stopping to Think) Actually... In that light... I suppose the Browns don't count either. The name of Cleveland comes from a big tract of nothingness that "Cleves" the city into two sections. This tract of nothingness actually makes up the majority of city and... and... this is very important!!! The tract of nothingness isn't clearly labelled. Hundreds of people fall into this unmarked zone every day because they don't realize where they are and they are never heard from again. If you ever wondered what happened to Phoebe Cates... we think she got swallowed up by Cleveland.

Other famous assumed victims of falling into the Cleveland Nothingness and never to be heard from again:

Nick Swisher
Ravan Symone
Ed Marinaro
Tony Orlando
Joyce DeWitt
Phil Donahue
"Tootie" From Facts of Life

So Please... Be Careful is you ever go to Cleveland... Know it's there and it isn't clearly marked.

3. Eddie Rosario -- Of Course we have to think about Eddie Rosario... He's the new thing and we all love new things. What a debut... The very first major league pitch he sees... He takes it the opposite way for a home run. One of 29 in MLB history to homer on the very first pitch. Yeah... They sit and wait in Chicago for the very first Kris Bryant dinger... He was supposed to have 20 by now. We didn't have to wait long at all for Eddie to do it.

Eddie is from Guayama Puerto Rico and that's on the south coast of that... umm... territory... commonwealth... island... whatever it is. Puerto Rico is an American Territory... This Makes Eddie an American and entitled to... umm... Well... He doesn't get any representation so that's out. Well... I'm sure that Americans spend money when they travel to... Umm... No... We all go to Jamaica for a Caribbean adventure. OK... Eddie doesn't get much from the Government but if Canada ever attacked the island we'd probably defend it. Actually... I'm not sure about that either... I'll have to ask Chief if we would... He'd know.

Anyway... it was exciting to see Eddie in the lineup and we hope to see more of him. Maybe he can prove himself enough to stay with the club when Arcia comes back from the D.L.

4. Adam Brett Walker - Sano this... Sano That... While we all keep our eye on Sano and wait for his arrival in Minnesota. However... It does appear that Adam Brett Walker might be sliding under the radar. Sano has 5 home runs in Chattanooga with a .188 Batting Average however... Adam Brett Walker after homering last night is leading the Southern League with 7 Home Runs and a .247 batting average. We all want that big power hitter who strikes out a lot and Sano is that guy no doubt... but i'm just saying... Walker has more homers and he has struck out more than Sano has. So... let's start watching this radar blip and start thinking... Rosario... Buxton... Sano... and... and... Walker are going to be Twins of the future. I wonder if Seth Stohs agrees with me on this... because Seth is the only minor league source that I trust.

5. Banks -- We just remodeled our bathroom... This type of thing is surprisingly expensive. Almost could have built an entire new house at the price. We went to the bank to secure the financing and our credit if off the charts good so it wasn't an issue at all. The Banker seemed very excited to give us money and wanted to give us more. He actually suggested that we build a water park instead. It felt good to know you have good credit and we worked hard to have good credit. But... I got to thinking about the credit check/bank loan process. It turns out that a Bank is absolutely willing to loan you money... but first you have to prove that you don't need it.

2. Is this like "Land of the Lost?" I'll put that on my cue to see after the Monkees...

And i hesitate to ask if there is a time period associated with the rift?

3. It's like "new car smell" only with baseball players, eh?

5. Does this mean you'll be charging admission to the bathroom?

-signature (and possible plc, if others think it has potential) a doppelganger morphs into a bar...

Anyway, good job on the intro! Thanks for all the hard work!

Some would say Columbus has professional sports ... like many cities in the SEC.

Well, shoot, if the Twins keep on keepin' on, Cleveland will remain cellar dwellers.

By the way, I'm going to take one for the team and tune into the White Sox Hawk broadcast once in a while and see if Hawk is sticking with his "good team bad baseball" line.

You're welcome.

I'm sure my fellow USAF veterens will back me up when I say Im confident the world's finest air force stands ready to vigorously defend any piece of American territory that has sunny beaches, fine hotels, great golf courses and copious amounts of good rum.

Way to bury the lead, Chief. Of course we'll defend this fine island. In fact, someone should send me there as part of an advance scouting party to assure the defenses of the RUM are in place.

Former Army artillery standing by with Illum for any night ops you may need to conduct while scouting.

Asterisks are just another long-haired liberal-wackadoodle way of suppressing my right to say whatever the h-e-double-hockeysticks I want to say!!! And that's a FACT. So I'm going to turn this into politics if I WANT to turn this into politics!

I just don't want to. Take that, you bunch of conformist sheeple.

Also, go Twins.

Thanks, Riverbrian. You always make me laugh...but that's about given, right? Everybody loves you. ;)

Back to the game... you actually gave me 7 things to think about today. Here are the two not listed:

1. Should the Indians be our favorite team now?

2. Is there a chance that we'll have a rematch of the 1987 WS this year?

What are warning points and how do I get them?

If i were to start a caliber war, 9mm versus 45acp, or 556 versus 762..would that count? Are there instigator points?

Glock versus 1911?

I don't know if I'd put Land of the Lost in your queue.......

X files or Warehouse 13 (a super light x files type show, sort of) or Torchwood if you've watched enough Dr Who.....

Thanks for the recommendations. Have seen X files (indeed, new episodes were a social event in the 90s)

Have seen new Who to a point, enough to appreciate Torchwood, though i've only seen an episode or two of it.

Not familiar with Warehouse 13...

But i think a motivation for Land of the Lost is the campiness. Old Who would fall in the category too.

Meh, i'll watch something... Up until the game tonight. Though i suppose i could also distract myself with useful things, like yardwork.

While warning points might be a good thing (and that, I believe, is highly controversial), I have a feeling that after reaching too many one's account is removed. So be careful. Too much of a good thing can backfire.

Here's a fun thought....Sweep Cleveland this weekend and with a series between Detroit and KC this weekend, would put the Twins in 2nd place regardless if a split or sweep in Detroit....

Better yet...Detroit sweeps KC, Twins sweep Cleveland and then Detroit and on Thursday are in sole possession of 1st place....man, I may have jinxed everything

Notice I refrained from the ultimate heresy: National League Rules are Superior to American League Rules.

I tried to avoid conflict by mentioning less controversial topics.

The best thing to do is to get to know the moderators real well. (On a confidential note, that's just exactly what I'm trying to do; not sure how well it's going to work, but I think I've got a nibble.) After you have gotten pretty buddy-buddy with them, you can begin pushing buttons. You don't want to be so bad that you make your new friends mad, so go slowly, but there will be the straw that eventually breaks the camel's* (other members') back(s). I think I've gotten pretty close on more than one occasion (I was especially worried when I posted my take on speeding up the game last November), but surprisingly, after wobbling dangerously, they always managed to stay on their feet - so far. But it will happen someday. I feel sure of it. But the point is, if you get a warning point, when the moderators check it out, they'll merely think to themselves, "Oh, Blake...he's okay," and not worry about it at all.

But if they do write to you, try a hand at your 5-yr-old theme: "Can't I have just one more chance? I'll be good now. I promise!"

*You know, why doesn't the camel just lie down? Why does it wait until its back breaks? That would be like holding your breath, not until you needed to take another, but until you passed out. Unrealistic.

The shortened condensed version of the rules is  here. If you want a more in depth description, read the link JB posted. And you can read about warning points and how they are assessed here. If you have further questions about the rules, PM a moderator. Warning points are generally not something you want to amass quickly.

And, incidentally, 'buddying up' to a moderator doesn't save you from anything. If you are bad, you are bad. If you are good, you are good. :)

And if you have general questions or comments about the site ... rules, moderation, technical stuff, suggestions ... you can post that in the MinnCentric forum.
