Concerning errors.  Back when some of the guys mentioned by Doc were playing, major league scorers expected major league caliber defense from major league players.  Seems error numbers would be through the roof nowadays if today's players were judged by the standards of scorers back in Ozzie Smith's days. I am often baffled by what needs to happen for a player to actually be charged an error in today's game.

In looking at Santana in the context of the success of Plouffe and Dozier, it is a stark reminder of just how bare the minor league cupboard has been the last few years.

The Twins currently have 3, possibly, 4 pieces of an excellent infield in place, after several years of scrambling to just attain mediocre.

The pitching woes are being addressed through free agency but the problems in the outfield are now very apparent.

This all makes it quite obvious the farm system just did not have the talent to keep the MLB club going at any position until recently.
