How Long for Pinto?

So you don't think he would have made the team out of spring training, even without the concussion?

I think most of us here know there are nuances to the catcher position. I am not sure if these nuances are best learned as Deduno's personal catcher in 2014, or repeating AAA at age 26 in 2015...

Besides, Pinto's bat might be equal or better than Vargas. Pinto's overall hitting (by wRC+) has been comparable or better than Vargas's at the same age at every level above low A ball. I'm not sure that's something a team like the 2015 Twins can afford to leave in AAA indefinitely for refinements.

Do not know if Pinto was going north, though the conclusion is that he was. Twins minor league coaches and managers file reports on players every week, and Terry Ryan was just in Rochester a couple of weeks ago, if they thought he was ready, Pinto would be here. Point is here between the lines the Twins do not trust Pinto as a catcher. He will only be up when that changes or Vargas plays his way back to Rochester.

fine....pick another way to compare him to other catchers.....let me know where he ranks.

The point is that you should never use a month of stats to rank ability.  Suzuki has had an awful month but that isn't a measure of how will play for the rest of the season.  This isn't really even an issue of WAR.  It's basic statistical analysis.

Using your analysis method Dee Gordon is the best player in baseball and Stephen Vogt is the 4th best.  No reasonable person would claim that.  They have played very, very good in the first month though.  Suzuki on the other hand has played poorly for the first month.

Except as I stated upthread my opinion is based on years of data. This month only confirms years of data. Again, how long should they wait? Ignore this month......fine. Is he good? Does his career and age make it likely he will be good?

Suzuki's defense continues to decline, he was always a bad pitch framer, and his offense comes and goes. He's definitely not 'good'... adequate, at best, and quite possibly less.

And Pinto can't beat him out.
