Article: Berrios, Buxton Among First Round of Cuts

Recommended Posts

I think what we're seeing here is Molitors approach differing from Gardy's.  Molly talks to these guys and I would imagine explained his reasoning.  He most likely wants to see more of those left to have a better handle on who to take north.  In the same time those sent down will get more playing time there, and that word gets back to Molly too.

I heard they had inter squad games (minor leaguer) today.     Did any of the guys who were cut play in those minor league games.  Did anyone see them play if they did play?

They did not. The four players that I tweeted showed up down there in the morning didn't play and the others didn't show up (excused). Guys on the 40 man roster get 48 hours to report to minor league camp. Non-Roster guys don't have that ability. They are generally expected to go there right away, but I'm guessing the Twins will give them a day.

I was there. Pictures to facebook and twitter shortly.

Great photos and thank you.    Were games exciting?  I saw Stewart and Gonsalves pitching in photos.

Amazing to see how some of these kids age in just a few years.  Beards and Muscles.  They are getting into their "Man" bodies as I watch these photos.  The future is bright.

Isn't Sano on the 40 man? If he gets injured and ends on the DL he starts getting service time.

Basically, yes.  A player on the 40-man roster who gets injured cannot be optioned to the minors.  I don't know how much they can enforce it in spring training, though (there isn't even an MLB disabled list until 9 days before opening day).

I see minor league guys appear in spring training games all the time, even up to the very end, so is there anything preventing the Twins from optioning Sano on paper but getting him more MLB ST game action?

If that's the case, then it is reasonably wise to option 40-man guys early if you know you are going to option them at some point anyway.

Yes Sano had 2 HRs but that's the only hits and combined with the strike outs, recovering from surgery, and no one expecting him to be ready, I'm ok with the option. We need to see others get their at bats and sort out who actually makes the team not watch a prospect.

My only disappointment in ALL the cuts was Oliveros but that bullpen is gonna be crowded with starters we can't option out especially is May and/or Meyer make the squad.
