Why everything under Twins Talk?

Did you guys make a decision to change the organization of the site?

Why are article comments and game threads now under Twins Talk?

One of the things I liked best about the site was that you had a pretty good organizational structure. Not too many divisions under forums but just enough that I knew that the Article comments would generally be by the 4 Twins Centrics writers plus a few bloggers; Twins talk would generally have threads unrelated to articles and that Game Threads had their own home.

Curious why things are getting lumped together today.

We're just trying out some new ideas. The concept is to get the game thread and articles seen by as many eyes as possible. After the game is over, the thread will be archived in the game thread forum. TD usually has 4-8x as many people looking at the minor league and Twins forums as it does the article and game thread forums so hopefully, we'll get more lively discussion all around.

It's much, much better this way. There's no reason anyone should have to go out of their way to navigate into a completely separate forum just to open a single thread.

I had a PM exchange with Nick about the game threads a couple weeks ago, suggesting that the game thread be tagged as a forum-wide announcement (as opposed to simply sticked in a single forum), so that it would be visible/accessible from every forum. Does this forum software support that?

You know, I'm not sure. I haven't used this software in over six years so it's basically like learning it from scratch again. I'll look into it but I'd think that it has to offer that service.

Back in the day, we used to have 200+ posts in almost every game thread at BYTO. My goal is to get back to those kinds of numbers here at TD. Of course, the Twins looking more Bad News Bears than '27 Yankees makes it an uphill battle but I think it's an achievable goal.

Thanks for your replies. And although i understand the philosophy behind this, i still don't like it.

The site was not hard to navigate -- it was just a question of whether you wanted to navigate it. now it is just being all dumped upon us.

i especially don't like that Twins Talk now mirrors all of the articles on the front page. it is duplicative and unnecessary.

You'd be surprised how many people don't check certain forums or the front page. There are some rather significant changes coming to TD in the coming weeks and new people are going to be joining the forums. The idea is to join the forum content with the article content as closely as possible. While people have access to everything with one click, many don't notice or don't choose to click into those areas where content that interests them may exist. The forums aren't getting the traffic they should and this is an experiment to try to fix that.

As with everything else at TD, your input is valued. Nothing is set in stone. If the general consensus is that the community doesn't like something, we will certainly change it.

You can throw me in the "routinely forget to check the "articles" sub-forum" group."

I'd prefer to see the threads for minor league specific articles appear in the minor league forum, the threads for Twins articles in the Twins forum, etc, with preference given to the primary Twins forum for anything that has cross-content.
