Twins pitching prospect Jose Berrios announced on his Twitter page that he has received an invitation to the team's big league camp in spring training:

The Twins' third-best prospect according to Baseball America, Berrios is deemed to have the system's best control as well as some impressive tools:

An excellent athlete who fields his position and holds runners well, Berrios topped out at 98 mph, and his fastball typically sits at 92-94 and shows late life. Throwing from a three-quarters arm angle, Berrios’ slurvy breaking ball comes in at 80-82 mph, but he can vary the speed and break on it. Fully committing to his changeup, Berrios used it as an out-pitch, throwing as many as 20 per game.

While he might not yet be in line for a rotation spot, this will give the coaching staff and front office ample opportunity to see the touted pitcher work firsthand.

Does Berrios do his own tweets?  Except for the wedding photo last week, his tweets are so incredibly focused on his workouts and making it to the majors.  Very impresed by the maturity of his attitude,

Absolutely the prospect I most look forward to watching develop.

If I recall, when he was drafted his English wasn't very good.  However considering the level of commitment and focus he clearly shows in developing his pitching, if he devoted a 10th of that toward learning English, he'd probably already be more articulate than any of us.

Glad to see him get the invite.  The team really seems to like him.  Every mention of him from team officials seems to mention his work ethic.

And it's really not all that surprising considering how much this club values control pitchers.  Berrios has the ability to make everyone happy though as he can also miss bas and has good velocity.  If he ever lived up to his potential, he could be the pitcher that brings all Twins fans together!

If you follow him, you note that a number of his Tweets go out in Spanish and then also in English. It has seemed to me at times like he's used Google Translate or a similar program.

Not sure if he does the Tweeting himself, but I wouldn't doubt it. Could be getting some help, though, too.

And, frankly, I'd have been shocked if he HADN'T gotten an invite to Big League camp. You've got a new pitching coach coming in and you'd expect him to want to get at least a couple of weeks' worth of looks at pretty much anyone who could possibly find his way to Target Field this year & that certainly would include Berrios.

He really could. Remember when he was drafted? That's exactly how you should start your career in professional baseball. You can tell he appreciates everything he has and works hard to get more. That's the kind of player I like to root for. It would be great to see him on the Twins this year!

I seem to remember him being incredibly excited when he was drafted... so much so that people commented about his attitude and how others should have it.  Seems like he's a very hard worker too.  Gotta admit that I respect the kid.  He won't likely be on the roster this season, but it's very easy to root for him.

You have set the bar very low indeed!
