I'm not familiar with how the instructional league works - do they play scrimmages against other teams, or is it more like team practices?

Since Gordon just broke a finger, would that mean that he'd be extremely limited in what he can do in the instructional league, or do they do a lot more than play simulated or scrimmage games?

It's very similar to spring training. They will have workouts in the morning and really focus. The player to coach ratio is very good. They will also play some games against teams that are close by.

Gordon will be very limited. He likely wouldn't do much more than observe, which is valuable.

I think the Twins would like to get him back on the mound, assuming his rehab is going well.

I think if the Kernels had needed Stewart over the last weekend of the regular season, he was healthy enough to pitch. The Twins, understandably, opted to be conservative with him. I'd be shocked if he didn't pitch in instructs.

I'd love to read a more comprehensive account of what transpires.  Do they have bunting classes ? How do they teach fielders (particularly outfielders) to react properly to a hit?  Hitting the cutoff man drills? Communicating in the field? Do they have English immersion classes for non-native English speaking players ?  Do they have extra Spanish coaches ?  questions questions questions ???  :)

As someone who frequents Instructs (I live like 20 minutes down the street from Twins and BoSox) I can answer some of the questions.  Yes they do have a bunting class (which is comical watching some of the sluggers partake in the past- ie. Kenny Vargas, Dalton Hicks, and Miguel Sano).  outfielders work on routes, hitting the cutoff man, infield drills include how pitchers/infielders react to a bunt and its situation.  Pitchers work on their delivery/mechanics and working on adding pitches.  There are plenty of coaches on the roster who speak spanish.  I'll be at the game on Saturday morning vs. Red Sox.  Here a few posts I did last year on the Instructs:

Bob Sacamento, it was such a joy to read your posts last year! So glad to know you plan to do the same again this fall. Please double your schedule. ;)

LOL birdwatcher, I wish but I just opened up my own clinic so I need the patients and money.  I'll be at the Saturday games (all verus the Red Sox) and might work in an early morning workout during the week before heading to the office.

Here are those links from last year:

Just a general question - how do you pronounce Chargois?

Charge-y? Shar-goy? Char-goes? Cargo?   Something else?

I always pronounced it Shar - gwa.  Really French sounding.  I could be completely wrong though.

Any certain player or activities/drills anyone would want to see in particular?  Elsewise I'm going to concentrate on the big names: Gordon, Stewart, Thorpe Eades, Chargois and see what Dereck Rodriguez has on the mound.

Yes! I'd love it if you pulled aside instructors, even players, and asked them to name one player fans haven't heard much about that really sticks out in their mind.

18 year old catcher Rainis Silva was on Jonathan Mayo's "Bonus prospect List," I'm curious how he compares to the other catchers there, as they all seem to be highly regarded and/or had good seasons this year.

Judging by some of the names on the roster, you might be wise to change your focus to sports medicine and just show up at the stadium.  You might get booked through January :)

I want to see what they can do with Michael Cederoth.  The team generally doesn't change many mechanics or pitches for draft picks their first year in the system.  Now is when we can see if the organization has some ideas on how to sand down his rough edges.  Just don't screw too much with the velocity.

Nick, I'm a Sports Chiropractor (CSCP) so Sports Med is my forte, I will say I wasn't that impressed with the strength and conditioning coaches work that I saw on the field.  I'm sure there were things they did behind closed doors but on field stretches (especially with the pitchers) didn't appear too in-depth.

If Cederoth is doing some side session work, I'll try to get some video on him as well.  It's always fun watching them on the side mounds because they work on small tinkering to the mechanics and new pitches.  Last year Rasmussen had a few working on changeups and was playing around with Meyer and what looked like a splitter.

AS for Chargois, If I can I'll see if he will say his own name (and maybe a hi to Twinsdaily) on video and I'll post it, that should settle the debate.
