Well...that was a bummer

Trevor May just made his long awaited Major League debut for the Twins on Saturday and...boy, that was a bummer. All anyone was talking about on Twitter, MLB.com, and here on TwinsDaily was "the future is here!" Gosh, if THAT is the future, I'm out.

Now clearly, one outing is no where near enough to dismiss a young man's career. I am not saying May is done and worthless; but, wow, 7 walks? I personally believe that May will eventually be a bullpen arm, but that is beside the point of this feed.

I was sitting on my couch watching May throw warm ups and I got honest to god shivers. I was (and still am BTW) so ecstatic about May's hopefully successful career. I just find it very interesting how desperate fans want to be excited for this club. Trevor's debut seemed to be equivalent to the second coming for Twins' fans. Again, I believe May will be fine. It's just very strange and, honestly, refreshing seeing Minnesota be so excited again for good baseball.

Just imagine the feels when Mr. Byron Buxton first runs into center. Boy, can't wait for that day in 2021

I got nothing.

Except...first ever ML start, nerves and excitement can be a demon.

Another start in 5 days?

I sure hope so. I think it would be a mistake to just automatically send him back. In fact, I think a second start would be ideal at this point.

This is why you take the next two months to give any all players who may be contributors in the next year or two a taste of the majors. You can afford to do so. It will make them hungry and give them something to learn when they spend all or part of next season in the minors. If you think Buxton will be here in 2016, why not let him see some major league stuff this year, besides next year.

May's start wasn't to unexpected.  And now it's behind him.  Next time out should be much better if he can work on his release point on the slower stuff and just relax some.  It'll take some time, just as it did with Gibson and so many others, and will with Meyer also.  He should finish his season up here, and probably has another 5 or 6 starts in him.  He's part of the future.

Trevor Mayihaveacalledstrikeplease is definately in the doghouse with all of those walks. Gardenhire will harangue on them.

Well yes and no. 7 walks in 2 innings is a problem no matter who the manager is. But I suspect they'll clean the slate and give him a fresh start.

I thought he might have gotten robbed on a few pitches too but checked brooksbaseball today - definitely wasn't the case.

I'm not too worried about one bad start. Especially against a really good team.

He was up against one of the best plate umpires in the league, Pat Hoberg. Very clutch with two strikes - hard to slip a third strike in against that guy.  Let's see how May does against one of the league-average umpires before drawing conclusions.

It was one start.  If you look at last year, May's ERA was 4.87 and he had two terrible starts, both 8 ER each driven in part by a ton of walks.  His ERA dipped in the 4.10 range sans those two starts.

This year, May has not had one of those until yesterday.  Really has no bearing on his career and I am glad that the Twins proceeded with a Kevin C. trade given the bad starts by May and Meyer.  Maybe they both need to wet the bed once, but our future is riding on them so don't flinch.
