What could have been in September

At the risk of starting yet another May/Meyer debate (which is absolutely not my intention), I was thinking about what the Twins could have closed the season with had Buxton and Sano not gotten hurt. This is what the lineup and pitching staff could have looked like this September.

Buxton CF

Dozier 2B

Mauer 1B

Sano 3B

Plouffe LF

Vargas DH

Arcia RF

Pinto/Suzuki C

Santana SS

Escobar, Nunez, Hicks, Parmelee also mixing in

Rotation: Hughes, Gibson, Nolasco, Milone, May

Pen: Perkins, Fein, Meyer, Pressly, Tonkin, Swarzak, Deduno, Duensing, Theilbar

This would be a fun team to watch and actually have the chance to be somewhat competitive, and you could squint and think that, even with a somewhat weak rotation, they could go into next year with a shot to be a fringe contender.

Buxton and Sano going down probably set the franchise back a year.

I think this lineup will take shape sometime next summer. So maybe set back only half or three quarters a year :)

I'm ok with Escobar at short and Santana in center and with Plouffe at third. Seeing the quality of other 3b in the Central and I think we're ok with either Plouffe or Sano at 3B.
