You can call this a rant if you want to do so.

1. Kurt Suzuki to the Orioles for either Zach Davies or Brandon Kline.

2. Josh Willingham to either the Orioles (with Hudson Boydesque pitcher) for Parker Bridwell OR to the Mariners with Tyler Duffeyesque pitcher for Tyler Marlette.

3. Casey Fien to Los Angeles Dodgers for Darnell Sweeney. Throw in Aderlin Mejiaesque prospect if need be (Levi Michael, Jason Kanzler).

Three legit trades to be made to really add nice depth to the minor league system. Simple, really.

I do not think the Twins need more ceiling of number 4 starter type pitchers.

I know that wasn't always the case

but they need to have higher ceiling prospects.

Not sure what you are talking about. When people say "you can never have enough pitching" it is true with regard to 1-5 major league starters. I am talking about trading for them. Not all that difficult.

I can't find it on the new site, but a few weeks back I said that the over/under on the total Twins' deadline trades should be set at 1.5, and we shouldn't be surprised by the under.

I would endorse all three of your suggested moves. However, in the next nine hours, the chances of the Twins making three moves is miniscule.

I'm still hoping they make the over (Suzuki), but I won't be shocked if they don't get there.

The only trades I see coming together are for a couple of our bullpen guys.  Suzuki really doesn't have much of a market if the O's aren't interested.  The Hammer is starting to come around a little too late for the July 31 deadline.  I still would have hoped Correia gets moved just to allow a younger guy to take his place.

BTW, cannot get higher prospects unless you have guys that are worth it.  This year, the Twins trade commodities aren't.

This is a balancing act, I somewhat agree with the majority of posters here, which is to trade players who will not be here next year for any somewhat decent return you can get, and if you struggle to get to 70 wins this year as a result, oh well.  The problem with that approach is it will not sit well with the owners, who have to sell tickets for next year and could be back to a small market revenue approach without improvement to boost sales.  Tough position, but owners may have to absorb some risk in that it takes money to make money.

Simple, really.

Except for the small problem that the Orioles don't appear to be interested in Suzuki:

It takes two to tango, folks.

Additionally, a source tells Sherman that the team is not in on Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki, though catcher remains another area that the Orioles are looking into. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports also just reported (on Twitter) that the club is not going after Suzuki. Baltimore had appeared one of the few good matches for Suzuki, who seems to have a fairly small market but remains perhaps the most attractive available backstop.

"You can never have pitching" is incorrect. What good is a minor leauge system that would be full of Jeff Manship clones? Your selection of pitchers are all low ceiling guys. This is known. A lower level prospect that has something to hint athere might be a higher upside  would be better than what you propose. See the careers of the high level prospect received from the Santana trade.

There is a difference between trading for a back of the rotation starter and drafting them. I would be fine trading any pieces we have for an average MLB starter. Seriously. Might as well get value from these guys.

Any value is good (even if it is low value) for players soon to leave as free agents that are blocking other players and don't fit our long term plans.

PS I'd trade Correia for cash considerations to be named later at this point. I want to see those rooks!!

Besides that you can find a Deduno or a Pino when you go looking, Logan Darnell, Kris Johnson, Gilmartin,  Taylor Rodgers, Pat Dean, Tyler Duffrey, Jason Wheeler, Tonshaw and Brett Lee would all be good reasons to try to get a higher ceiling but lower level player rather than another 4/5 starter. Perhaps why deals have not been done thus far is that Ryan is trying to get as much upside as possible. There are plenty of lower ceiling talents in the system
