Ok, I've given this new site format a few days, my conclusion is I don't like it.

It misses the back and forth with us posters that always followed subject matter on front page.  I don't see who posted last, I have to dig into this site to find topics, forums I missed, I mean, you have to be Sherlock Holmes to find stuff.  It just misses big time the back and forth we had going on the old site.  There are a bunch of posters I really enjoy reading, now I don't see it unless I open the Forum page.  Before, everything was on front page and quick glance you can jump right in.  Now, the content appearing appears limited, less subject matter and I noticed less posters.

I should add, I'm spending less time on your site now compared to the old.  I applaud you for keeping up with the latest and greatest internet tech but in so doing, it appears you took your eye off the ball (time for baseball jargon) and forgot about us in seeing at quick eye ball glances what's going on.

The front page just seems limited in content.  I'm not a fan of clicking into Forum and checking every one.  Thanks any way guys for everything you're doing.

The front page is going to display last post instead of first post, which is kinda illogical but how the module automatically serves content. It's on the list of changes coming in the next few weeks.

As for "quick glance", everything that was served on the old site's front page is served on the new site's front page, excepting those forum posts that are going to change at some point. The new front page delivers that information in a far more readable fashion with less imagery.

If you want a steady stream of new posts from everywhere on the site, use the quick nav on the top right and select Community>View New Content.

As for less posters on the forums, our traffic has not changed since the redesign.

Brock,

In thinking about some of the comments on this thread, I wonder if it might not be helpful to have a new thread where people talk about how they access/use TD.

For example, I was surprised when I read twinssouth's comment just above me about the usefulness of the old home page.

I use TD almost exclusively from my laptop.  For both the old site and the new site, I have the main page as my home page on Chrome but in all honesty, I bet I don't spend 15 seconds a day on the main page.  I almost immediately click on the "Forums" tab (I should just change my home page).

I use the forums tab as my "organizer".  By keeping it clean (i.e. by marking threads/forums read), I can immediately see if there is something new on a forum -- and that's where I jump in.

I love that the mods are posting the articles right into the threads and I rarely look down the articles list.   When I'm in a forum, I do glance down at the blogs list to see if there are new entries and will occasionally click on the blogs tab.  I didn't even realize there was a "schedule tab" until I looked just now.

The one thing that disappoints me is that I can't get to Jeremy's fine work from the forums tab - I have to go to the main page.

Anyway, that's how I use TD -- and keeping those forums marked "read" so I can just jump to the new is important to me.

I like the new design -- just wondering if others need to make some adjustments in how they access items on the site.

Edit:  I composed this before I saw the most recent dialogue with twinssouth.

I've been meaning to write a primer on how to use the site but it keeps getting punted down the list (and you'll see why in approximately two weeks). It will happen at some point, I've just been strung in 20 different directions for the past month and haven't gotten to it yet.

As for accessing Jeremy's work, scroll down to the footer from any page and you'll see links listed for the Org Chart and R&P under Articles.

One of my primary goals with this redesign was to make the entire site accessible with 1-2 clicks from any other page on the site. For the most part that's possible if you know where to look.

Well duh..... that tells you how much I look at footers.

So are you saying we'll be seeing new features in 2 weeks or some new announcement in your life or the life of TD???  Now you've caught my curiosity!

I haven't read through the whole thread so I'm not sure if this has already been brought up. Apologies if it has. TheLeviathan sounded like he may have been talking about the same thing on pg 3, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, on the old site there was a link up top when you clicked into "forums" and it would say "see all unread posts since your last visit" or something like that. I used that a ton since I only visit once a week at most. It appears that feature is now gone, unless I'm missing it. It was helpful since whenever I signed in again I had about 6 pages worth of posts to read and it would be all the ones I hadn't read before or it was where I had left off before. Without that feature, it looks like I'm going to have to go into every single forum (twins talk, minor league talk, vikings talk) separately, go back a few pages in each forum and catch up that way for every single forum. Is that right?

If the button does not exist anymore, but can be added back, can we get it back?

Edit: ah, if I would have just read one more page! Nevermind. I see Brock said it was under the guitar pick and I found it. Sorry about that.

At least one user is having trouble finding the interface to change one's own Member Title.  I can't find it, except under the moderator's control panel which has a different interface I believe.

Just to make sure ... click on your name up at the top right there, between the 'sign out' and notifications; and choose 'My settings.'  That page then should say 'General Account Settings' at the top, and underneath it reads 'Photo, Time Zone, Comments & Visitors, Friends, Profile Information' etc.  In the Profile Information section, you should see 'Edit my About Me Page' and under that is Member Title.  In that box is where you should put whatever.  That's how it is for me, and I would think it's that way for everyone else, but I don't know.

Edit:  there are two sections that say 'Profile Information,' it would be in the first of those.

Under 'Edit my About Me Page' is birthdate.  I don't see an entry for Member Title.   (Or, if you mean click on 'Edit my About Me Page', that just brings up a large empty field to type in, and putting something there doesn't change my member title.)

I would use it if I saw the Member Title above the My Birthday field, but unfortunately in my profile it's not the case, and I presume it's the same for the other members who keep asking this.

Are you using Chrome?  :)

Firefox.

I just tried IE10 with the same result.  (Brock will now tell me that IE 10 doesn't even exist. :) )

I don't keep a variety of browsers on my machine for doing QA. :)

I don't think it's a browser issue.  I can change mine in chrome, IE11 and Firefox.

It may be a "theme" issue - i.e. whether you are on Twins Daily 4.0 (the desktop/traditional site) or mobile 2.0 but I'm not sure that's it either.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the number of posts you have?  Wouldn't have thought so but now I see you're at 144 ashbury -- so maybe it isn't letting you change your member title until you reach a certain level?

thanks, not that I expect to change my profile from my phone......but you never know.

Mobile usage continues to rise. While not ALL functionality needs to be available on mobile, it's a good idea to make mobile as flexible as possible. I bet there are some users out there who ONLY use the site on mobile.
