Doubles

Doubles are my favorite hit: they drive in runs and keep rallies going.

They are usually well hit to boot.

I am happy that the Twins have 2 of the AL's top 10 doubles hitters for 2014 in Plouffe and Escobar. Suzuki is next at 35th, then Mauer at 41, though the actual numbers are:

4. Plouffe: 25

10. Escobar: 23

35. Suzuki: 18

41, Mauer: 17

Of course Cabrera leads the way with 34.

Keep it going boys.

Under appreciated stat, doubles.;)

While HR's and triples are more exciting, I'm right there with you on the value of doubles.

Seems the Twins have been very strong in doubles production over the years. Which makes the numbers you posted kind of depressing. A healthy Mauer gives you a real shot at 40 every year. I think Arcia should be good for 30 plus as well. Dozier should also, but forgive me for being more excited for his homers. I also think Plouffe is a legit 2B producer.

Suzuki and Escobar excite me, but scare me. Just based on gap power, and to a certain degree speed, I'd like to think we could/should have 6 guys with 30 plus doubles.

Triples here, as they do all those things you listed; plus this:

the excitement of watching the hitter strive for third, while watching the fielders relay the ball to make the play at third:D Nothing better! Guzzie where are ya??;)??

I agree with you. I love doubles, especially when you get a couple of them in a row. I think Colabello is another guy capable of hitting a lot of doubles.

Love seeing those real burners kick that extra gear on a triple.

2/3rds of the time (less than two outs), if a hitter triples, the thought of the next batter becomes "Sac Fly and get that run in from third". With a double, you still have a hitter thinking single to drive in the run

The best thing about a double is it eliminates the 6-4-3 coming next.

I wish the baserunners were a little more aggressive. I think you would be ahead if with 1 out you tried it enough to get thrown out 20%

My favorite is a triple from the guys like Jim Thome.

One of the most entertaining things to watch in baseball.

I thought that even with Nelson Arenado's goofy triple. Right around second you could almost see the "crap, I'm going to have to run farther than I want to!" expression forming.

Big Jim seems to be "running" at the same speed on both hits.
