Can Dozier be a 30-30 guy this year?

Recommended Posts

After today's game Dozier has 14 HR and 14 SB. Can he keep up the pace and finish out a 30-30 season? And if so, will he be the only one in MLB this year?

Gomez (12 HR, 11 SB) and Blackmon (11 HR, 12 SB) look like the only other candidates - no-one else in the AL is close.

Who was the last Twins player to put up that power/speed combination?

Most HRs by a Twin with at least 30 steals in one year? 14, by Rod Carew and by Larry Hisle. Hisle was thrown out 18 times that year- he should have concentrated on hitting homers.

Most steals by a 30-home run Twin? Puckett, with 20, followed by Gaetti, with 14.

Closest? Corey Koskie, 26 HRs and 27 steals. That was his career high in each category.

I thought maybe Knoblauch had come close, but now I see he never hit more than 13 HR (in a Twins uniform at least)

True, but getting 60 steals makes up for fewer HRs pretty nicely. OPS .800, played a very good second base- that would be ok.

In '69, Killebrew went 49-8. Not the split you're looking for, but close to the total. :D

I like both of these options, know a couple the Twins could add?

No question he's on pace. Only concern would be, I'd think, just getting worn out at some point. I know I don't want Dozier to sit...ever...but in reality I think he should get a break here and there just to keep him fresh for the whole season.

At this point, Dozier has established himself as being real. Power, speed, excellent defense, scores runs, knocks in runs, gets on base. I'm still confused by the low average though. He can clearly hit and has a good idea of the zone. I'm willing to accept a lower AVG for everything else his brings, but it's still puzzling to me.

I wonder if TK's head is exploding. Dozier changed his approach dramatically--he pulls more balls and tries to jerk inside pitches. I think that does hurt his BA, but this year, at least, he has more than made up for it by drawing so many free passes. He is on a 100 walk pace which makes up for a lot of singles.
