Here's the Twins lineup from May 7:

Dozier 2B

Fuld CF

Plouffe 3B

Colabello 1B (RIP)

Kubel RF (RIP)

Suzuki C

Pinto DH

Escobar LF (hmmmm ... )

Florimon SS (RIP)

Here's tonight's lineup:

1. Danny Santana (S) CF

2. Brian Dozier ® 2B

3. Joe Mauer (L) 1B

4. Josh Willingham ® LF

5. Oswaldo Arcia (L) RF

6. Kendrys Morales (S) DH

7. Trevor Plouffe ® 3B

8. Kurt Suzuki ® C

9. Eduardo Escobar (S) SS

No doubt about it, the Twins have come a long way in one short month. Look at the enormous qualitative difference in the 6-9 spots. If Mauer can just start being Mauer again, I think the Twins are on to something good here.

The offense is moving in the right direction, no doubt. Even without Mauer, the Twins are scoring runs.

Now, the pitching, on the other hand, has been maddeningly inconsistent. There is no way the Twins will finish above .500 with the current group of starters. Did you see where May had an unusually bad outing in his last start? He gave up 3 runs in 6 innings. Oh, the horror. Come on Terry, do something about the pitching!!!

Yes, because AAA results translate directly to what would have happened in the majors. :)

They don't, but I think we can say that the odds are pretty decent that May would not be less effective than Correia is now at the MLB level. With varying degrees of change, we can probably say something similar about most of the AAA pitchers. And a couple of the AA pitchers. And a water pitcher.

Very good. There's no doubt that the make-over of the lineup must be accompanied by a make-over of the pitching staff. Beyond looking for a top-end pick-up arm from the sellers (Cahill is likely just the first DFA-type, straight-out trades like Samardzija and Price and lesser arms also might be considered), it's now time to consider, and perhaps tryout the various AAA (and at least 2 of the AA) arms, as well as maybe later, Burdi- as if the results of last 2 days, from both the starters and the pen, aren't indicative enough that it's time for some serious consideration of ALL of the options out there.

Based on last night's results, it looks like the "marshall" had to get going on a new campaign to demote Pinto today, instead.
