Ryan Pressly 2014

Ryan Pressly stands at 6'3", 205 lbs and is a right handed relief pitcher in Rochester. He was drafted out of High School by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round in 2007. His first few seasons were spent mostly as a starter but he began pitching relief in earnest in 2012. Between the 2012 and 2013 seasons, the Twins acquired him in the rule V draft. They were required to keep him on the Major League Roster all year or risk losing him back to the Red Sox. It was not much of a sacrifice as he pitched respectably as a rookie. Numbers have, for the time being, pushed him off the 25 man roster.

Ryan pitched twice more this week:

On Tuesday June 3rd Pressly came in for a 1,2,3 ninth inning to close out a win for AJ Achter earning his third save of the year. 1 inning, no hits or walks, one strikeout.

Yesterday started well. After 6 shutout innings by Alex Meyers, Pressly came on in the 7th for a one, two three inning with the second two both striking out. The eighth inning started with a pop up but a single, passed ball, and two walks later Pressly left with the bases loaded for Aaron Thompson. Two of the inherited runners scored and were placed on Pressly's tab. 1.1 innings, 1 hit, two walks, two earned runs, two strikeouts.

On the 10th, Pressly relieved May with one out in the 6th inning and runners on 2nd and 3rd. He struck out the first batter but allowed one inherited runner to score on a wild pitch before stranding the other player at third. In the 7th he struck out the first batter but an out and two singles later he was relieved by Thompson who induced a groundout. No earned runs, 2 strike outs in 1.1 innings but a blown hold.

On Thursday, Ryan closed out a win for Pino pitching the 8th and 9th innings giving up one single and no walks while striking out 3.

Then he takes the loss...Yesterday, Ryan came on in the top of the sixth for Kris Johnson after Kris gave up a walk and a double putting Rochester down 2-3. Ryan struck out the batter to get out of the inning and set them down 1,2,3 in the 7th now with Rochester up 4-3.

Then the eighth. A Wilkins Ramirez error turns an out into a man on second. A double, single and two strikeouts later and Ryan is pinned with two unearned runs and Rochester does not get out of the 4-5 deficit.

Tough Loss: Pressly 2.1 innings, two hits, no earned runs or walks with 4 strikeouts. Last 10 appearances, he has struck out 22 in 18 innings with only 3 walks.

Two appearances this week, on the 18th he gave up a hit and a walk while striking out 2 over three scoreless innings.

On the 20th, not as good...he stranded an inherited runner with a strike out in the 7 th inning but after getting two outs in the 8th, the wheels came off. A walk and a single were followed by a wild pitch putting runners on 2nd and third. No big deal until two more walks led to a run. AJ Achter did not pick him up either as he walked the first batter he faced adding an earned run to Ryan's night. 1 inning, 1 hit, 3 walks, a wild pitch, and two earned runs with only one strike out.

On June 27th Ryan earned his first save pitching a 1,2,3 ninth with a strike out.

On July 1st he was called upon with the bases loaded in the 6th. He promptly gave up a 3 run double and a run scoring single before finishing the inning off. He gave up two more hits in the 7th followed by 2 sacrifice flies and another run. He got the 3rd out and was replaced in the 8th. Not a great night but Rochesters starter Kris Johnson still got the win 15-11

He was thrown right back out there July 3rd. He replaced Alex Meyers in the 7th inning pitching 1,2,3 7th and 8th innings. He allowed a meaningless 2 out single in the 9th before a fielders choice completed a solid 3 inning save.

In 29.1 innings this year with bases empty, opponents are batting .182 against him vs .284 in 21.1 innings with runners on. I think this means something about how he should NOT be used in the future...

Ryan has made 4 appearances since my last update. 5.2 scoreless innings unless you count the two inherited runners that scored. He struck out 7 and walked none. He has made 7 straight appearances without giving up a walk.

July 6th Ryan polished off a 6-1 victory in the second game of a double header sweep pitching two innings allowing 3 hits but striking out two and enducing a game ending Double Play.

July 8th He earned his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth. Ibarra got the win in relief of Meyers

July 10th Ryan relieved Oliveros with a runner on second in the bottom of the ninth. First batter single, second batter grounds to first runner scores ahead of the throw home.

July 12th Ryan relieved Sean Gilmartin in the 7th with a tied scor, one out and runners on first and second. A fielders choice put runners on first and third and a single allowed one inherited runner to score before a come backer finished the inning. He threw a 1,2,3 8th inning and after a lead off single he earned three more K's in the ninth. Rochester scored four in the 8th so he got a win out of the deal too.

overall he has appeared in 33 games, 56.1 innings, with 6 saves. He has 57 strike outs to 19 walks and a 2.88 ERA with a 2.66 FIP. If my Math is correct, his WHIP is 1.22, his K9 is 9.11, and BB9 is 3.04

Ryan took the loss for Rochester Friday night giving up four hits and (gasp) a walk leading to two runs in a two inning appearance striking out two (thats a lot of 2s).

Ryan made his first appearance of the year in his first legitimate call up! (Last year he was in MLB because of the Rule V draft) he pitched 2 innings with 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 Strike out. Season ERA =0.00

Since he is in the show, this will be my last prospect update unless he is sent back down.
