Houston's SS is number two, and people always talk about how they messed up going cheap......if the guys they used that extra money in pan out,I would call it genius. Sano in top 25, Meyer just outside it. Maybe someday the promised future will come.

I had hoped the long promised future would finally start this year, with Sano and Rosario, and eventually Meyer and Buxton. It seems like the Twins default position is always delaying when tomorrow finally gets here. Obviously, some developments this year are out of their control

 

Let me continue in the spirit of our "differences". I fully expected Sano to be up by sometime in May, Meyer in June after the Super 2 date, Buxton after the All Star Game, and Rosario on September 1st....and joined then by May and Vargas. At this point, with the Twins current philosophy, recycling bad veteran starters and relievers, playing a 32 year old catcher 6 days a week over the team's 3rd best bat, and in another example, of promoting Chris Hermann as meaningless filler for a West Coast roadtrip over better options (saved money on air fare for Arcia and service time for Vargas), I hold doubt that any of my predictions will hold, except for a call-up or two....perhaps either May or Meyer after Correia is traded, but Pelfrey will be given every possible chance to claim Correia's spot first, probably followed by Darnell and Johnson.

Well, it doesn't come all at once. They graduated three top 100 prospects off the lists last year. Pinto, who made some lists, will graduate this year. Meyer and May will come up. The injuries to Sano and Buxton (and Rosario's drug suspension) are real bummers but the team does seem to have a decent foundation being placed.

I thought mayyyyyybe Sano, Rosario and Meyer might be up for a little while toward the end of this year. I had no expectations whatsoever about Buxton. Perhaps you are setting your expectations way, way too high. And I'm not sure how much the "promised future" should be criticized when one dude needed TJ and the other sprained his wrist and the third tried to cheat and got caught.

As for Pinto, he never plays, so not sure what value he has added yet. Hicks can't hit. Arcia I believe in, and Gibson has a chance. If they could bring up 2 good playes a year, that would be great. So far, none this year, right?

You can criticize the farm system whenever and wherever you like. And I can say "be patient" and "don't blame people/organizations for injuries." And I don't think the timeline keeps moving back, I just think you set the timeline expectations way too high in the first place.

Injuries happen. Rosario got caught. I don't know what you guys want the organization to do. And, I don't know what we can do about it either.

 

Buxton and Sano will be fine... and they'd likely either be up or be just about up if they were healthy. Meyer is close. May is probably closer. Johnson and Darnell have been terrific. Vargas has surprised me. Berrios has surprised me. Plenty to be optimistic about.

Not that you were poking at my post specifically, but I think we all accept the element of the unpredictability of unfortunate circumstances in our posts, and I thought mine made it clear that is was as much expressing disappointment of the string of bad luck outcomes, as it was in criticism of the promotion philosophy. (And as a result, implicitly wondering if the delay of the Big 3 position players with their situations spilled over into deciding to roll back the whole general promotion process for another year?)

 

Seth, have you heard things not published yet about May and Meyer? The last things I read from Anthony about where Meyer is at made it seem very doubtful that something was going to happen with him any time soon, and with Antony officially announcing an innings limitation for Meyer in that same article, perhaps even doubtful that he even gets a September call. And perhaps I've missed something, but is there something published out there that indicates that May is an imminent call-up?

I'd also add that, while Sano, Buxton and Rosario have been underwhelming this year, they've had nice seasons from Berrios, Polanco, May and Vargas so far. None of those 4 are top 100 prospects right now but could be nice complementary pieces in the majors.
