Things to Think About:

1. 24-26 -- After 50 games... The Twins remain in striking distance of .500. 13-13 at home and 11-13 on the road. Get a win today and it's a winning home record. Despite the offensive taking a vacation and leaving pitching and defense to do all the housework at home... The Twins are 4-6 in their last 10 and still in position to recover and get moving. The Rubber band still has the ability to pull this thing back. Through it all... The Twins are still average... they still have some so-so juice.

2. Sam Deduno -- He sports a 3.48 ERA and while he hasn't gone great distances on the mound... 6 innings the max thus far. He has not been blown out and you can't say he hasn't given his team a chance to win a baseball game when he has taken the hill. With news of additional health problems for Pelfrey... It looks like Deduno can and is locking himself into the rotation. Now give me the key and I'll swallow it.

3. Nick Martinez -- There are not many baseball players in the majors that I have not seen. I watch a lot of baseball and have seen most players at least once. I have not seen Nick Martinez... I have no idea what he throws. I do know that the Rangers rotation is full of holes and someone had to jump in and help fill those holes and Nick Martinez is one of those guys. At some point Derek Holland is going to come back and somebody is gonna have to get out of the hole so Holland can fill it instead it. Nick is pitching for a starting spot in the rotation and he has been doing pretty good so far. He's got a 2.14 ERA although his WHIP is at 1.43 so the ERA could be soft. Nick was born in Miami Florida and he is 23 years old. That's pretty young... at that age... He probably thinks his parents don't know anything.

4. Eduardo Nunez -- The stories came flooding out of New York... Nunez can't play defense!!! Do an internet search and you read article after article about Nunez not being able to play defense. I keep watching for it... just to see it for myself and I haven't seen it yet unless you count some of his OF adventures. I'm not saying he can play defense... maybe he can't... I'm saying I haven't seen it yet and I think it's possible that he waits until I turn the channel to start kicking the ball around.

5. Break-ups -- A friend of mine was upset today because he came home from a week on the road and his girlfriend had left him without warning. He was a little troubled about losing her and not really knowing why... He was caught off guard and there was just a note saying she can't do this anymore. Although... He was mostly concerned because she took all of her stuff. That included the Refrigerator... The Bed... The Shampoo. It's been a rough couple of days sleeping on the floor and things kept cold in a cooler. I didn't know what to say to him to make him feel better. I told him that she should have given two week notice... and a temp should have been brought in. I probably shouldn't be giving advice when I'm working and in work mode.

So far so good for Nunez. Thus far the rap from New York, and the derisive nickname, Nun-E, appears to be bum ones. But then again, he's not playing SS yet, either.

His Twitter page is filled with classy posts https://twitter.com/EduardoNunez15, he emphasizes hard work and thankfulness to the Twins for giving him another opportunity. This would be his last year before arbitration, so I'm not sure if he's long for the team, but he is still a very "young" veteran.

Thanks, Mr. RB, for your usual good set-up. Re your friend's breakup, as hard as that is, there are times after 21 years of marriage that sleeping on the floor with no shampoo and food in a cooler sounds pretty good. But then, when we're finally talking again, I just tell her again the three little words that brought us together and still makes it all better: "Lower your expectations."

Yes!....but.....Aaron Hicks doing his own impression of Wally Pipp?

Seth just reported that Chris Hermann was removed in the 4th inning in the Rochester game...implications, maybe?

It does indeed have Pinto in it, batting 7th.

I can probably type the lineup up if that helps? Or even copy and paste, if i'm clever. If i did that, i might even find one with all the accents and tildes right (which was impressive on yesterday's thread)

1. Not a stretch to be hopeful for a good season. (Ever since someone used the phrase "rubberband man" i've been wanting to adapt some new lyrics to "mr. sand man", but alas, i'm slow when i try to be clever)

2. Yup. Deduno's still fun to watch, and doin' pretty good.

3. I know it isn't a useful response, but i sure hope Martinez throws baseballs. Anything else, and someone could cry foul play...

4. I bet there's a lesson in this somewhere, regarding news and salt...

5. That's a bummer, man! But alas, i'm not likely to be able to offer anything useful. At least there'll be a diversionary baseball game this afternoon.

I'm in southern Iowa, barely 30 miles from the Missouri border, and the game is blacked out on MLB Network. I guess they expect me to go to the game?

How is that even possible? You must be somewhere in Royals/Cards/Cubs territory, not Twins Territory.

I'm actually only about 2 hours from Kansas City. If I was at home, I could watch it on FSN. Even at home I'm still only about 50 miles from Missouri. MLB considers Iowa a home market for too many teams.

The entire state of Iowa is Cubs/Royals/White Sox/Twins/Brewers/Cardinals territory.

It sucks if you rely on mlb tv or many cable stations.

It is great if you are on Dish because you get all of their local sports networks in many dish packages. Not sure about Direct TV and whether you still have to buy extra innings.

I would go to every game if I could. I just want to watch baseball! I don't see how blacking a game out when I'm a 4 and a half hour drive away from Minneapolis is a good idea. I'm not likely to make the game. Maybe it has something to do with TV money

I just think they didn't want to draw lines across and through the state.

But hey, I just found out that Las Vegas is also blacked out on 6 teams: http://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2014/02/27/with-2014-baseball-season-a-slight-thawing-in-broadcast-blackout-policy/

We Iowans don't have to feel so lonely.

It's about money.

Iowa needs to be fixed.

Way too much Corn and Pigs.

Send some of that oil money south, Brian.

Oh... North Dakota needs to be fixed as well.

However... The part of North Dakota where I live... I consider it to be Minnesota.

North Dakota today... Really starts when you climb out of The remains of Lake Agassiz.

Valley City and west.

Us in the Valley... We are still Minnesotanish.

I love corn and pigs (I'm a sheep farmer, however). Corn is always interesting.

Dodgers RP Chris Withrow the latest to need Tommy John surgery. Brings count to 45 known cases this year. Last year, just 25 through May 29.
