Gad-Zukes was quoted about his approach and prep for King Felix. To me it sounded like what he does for every pitcher.

You prepare for some pitchers by noting that they tend to beat themselves and so you plan to wait for that. Hernandez not being like that doesn't mean you're not prepping for him, but that you plan (for instance) to be aggressive at a different time than for a less-talented opponent.

Dick: "...and Santana, for what I bet is one of the few times in his major league career*, just grounded into a double play."

*27 PA

Would he make that bet on any given stretch of 27 PA if it had been Florimon?

I'm sure you're right, I think it's also a case of "veteran savvy player providing a quote to the media that's not offensive but sufficiently vague enough to keep him out of trouble".

i just thought it was funny.

Jamie: Kurt, you're batting something like .400 against one of the best pitchers in the game, how do you do it?

Kurt: Well Jamie, I keep within myself and try not to do too much.

Sconnie: No kidding Kurt, you're a slap hitter, that's what you do for every pitcher.

I suppose the key for him is knowing when to slap. :)

Is it just me, or is Rodney's face aligned at an odd angle?

It's either you or the hat. You'd think major league suppliers would have better quality control.

Tuesday, afternoon,

I'm just beginning to see,

Now I'm on my way,

It doesn't matter to me,

Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,

The trees are drawing me near,

I've got to find out why

Those gentle voices I hear

Explain it all with a sigh.

I'll take "Moody Blues" lyrics for $600, Alex.

@RhettBollinger: Chris Herrmann to be recalled from Triple-A Rochester, Michael Tonkin optioned to Rochester.

Entirely predictable......Because it's absolutely critical to carry 3 catchers in an NL ballpark.

The problem is that once Herrmann (Gardy's nookie blanket) is up, it might be hard to send him back down again unless he ends up hitting .098 like before. My biggest fear is that he ends up at a Mendoza line plateau, and is on the roster all year.

This move still answers questions and does tell us that:

Willingham isn't ready.

Florimon's 3 hits, 5 errors, in 9 games isn't quite good enough to get him recalled.

Vargas isn't coming up any time soon, notwithstanding his ~1.300 OPS over the last month.

Arcia wasn't worth calling up yet- by having to DL someone else- to get him up.

And there's no one else worth calling up and risking losing a player on a roster claim.

If you were going to throw a huge wad of money at a free agent already at the pinnacle of his career. .309/.355/.501 career with 14 games missed cumulatively since 2007, would be the player to do it with huh?

What is this, the career lines for Pelfrey and Correia?
