Where's Jim Crikket when you need him?

He's never too far away, at least not as far as some would like him to be.

It's true that Slegers' fastball is in the low 90s. It would undoubtedly be nice if he was throwing 96, but that's never been his thing. (If it was, he'd have never been available to the Twins in the 5th round of the draft.)

His height means he has a tough to handle down-hill slope on his pitches and he works both sides of the plate effectively. It must also seem to a hitter like he's striding halfway to the plate.

If you missed it, I posted an interview with Slegers (in which he comments about his perceived lack of top end velocity) you can read by clicking here and, a couple weeks ago, I posted a video of an inning of his work against Clinton that you can watch by clicking here.

As I posted in the comments section with the latter thread, he was consistently 89-92 on the Clinton speed gun, but touched 93 and 94 that day anyway.

Keep in mind, anyone who sees him pitch in CR, that the Kernels' scoreboard speeds are generally 1-2 mph lower than actual. So if you see his speed posted as 90, he's actually at 92.
