Coaching

What's going in with Twin's instructional coaching? Wimmers was the victim last night of 5, count 'em, 5 errors and 9 unearned runs. I don't have access to the statistics, but it seems, from looking at the box scores that the Twins minor league teams have an awful lot of errors.

Also, they left Wimmers in the game long enough to give up an 11 run 4th inning. I know, 9 were unearned, but he faced 24 batters and gave up 11 hits and a walk. Were they trying to make a case about something? Just seems a bit unusual.

That's what the minor leagues are for: instruction :)

Goodrum and Harrison made 2 errors each. They are playing new positions this season. The 5th was a throw from Polanco to the first baseman, which could have gone either way. Who was the first baseman? The 5'10" (maybe) SS/2B Aderlin Mejia.

So all errors involved players learning new positions. This is what the minors are for. To err and learn from your errors. All about instruction and player development. Errors in the majors do matter.

As far as the "victimization" of Wimmers goes: at 25 he is 2 years older that the average kids who are playing at high A. If he cannot strike them out, it is his fault... He has 1.7 WHIP, 6.7 K/9 and 3.7 K/9, in a league he is too old for. If he does not turn those numbers around soon, I will not be surprised if he starts to work from the pen to get his act together...

Last year the errors in the FSL ranged 100-159. Fort Myers had 113.

The MWL range was 137-196. Cedar Rapids made 159.

It doesn't seem that the Twins instruction around errors was much different than other organizations last year. A-Ball players make a lot of errors. The game speeds up from the rookie leagues to A-Ball and errors result.
