About that Steak Dinner...

I have an idea this happens to be the thread I was on when I had it. If it's considered hijacking, let me know and I'd be glad to move it.

I just "liked": someone's post, and as you know it now says "This user likes _____'s post and wants to buy him/her a steak dinner." To be honest, I did like the post, but I don't really want to buy him/her a steak dinner. I really think a beer (or a soft drink for those who prefer that) would be more appropriate. It's more social and it's more of a "like" kind of thing. A steak dinner is more than that. We have lots of "like" posts here, but hardly any true "steak dinner" posts. (Sorry, gocgo, but that was a beer like, not a steak dinner like.)

 

So here is my suggestion: Sponsored "likes". Instead of "This user likes _____'s post and wants to buy him/her a steak dinner" it could say "This user likes _____'s post and wants to buy him/her a beer at Freehouse" (to use the latest sponsor as an example.) That would be much more accurate (if I wasn't stuck here in Oklahoma, I would in fact like to buy him/her a beer at Freehouse, and that photo of the beer on the Freehouse link looks awfully good) and it could possibly even generate some revenue for the site.

That's a good point, although we might be able to get around it with disclaimers and/or careful wording. Maybe change "a beer" to "a beverage" and add a little "details" pop-up link with something like "Sponsored messages are for entertainment purposes only and no specific promises of free food and/or beverages from the member, the site, or the sponsor are intended. Our sponsors are selected because we like them and they like us, and we encourage you to visit them."

 

I'm sure a lawyer could help draft it. In the mean time, I'm going to call mine to see how I go about collecting all of those steak dinners.*

On that note, I'm planning on being in the Twin Cities late August... I'll be happy to receive all those steak dinners I've been promised.... Or perhaps Brock should say something about a papajohns pizza... Perhaps multiple classes of likes?

As many times as I've hit the button, I'm going to have to go to one of my neighbors and arrange to buy a herd of steers.
