Twins Assistant GM Rob Antony announced before tonight's game that Josh Willingham would be going to the DL, and Michael Tonkin would be flying to the Twins Cities on Saturday morning...
...and batting cleanup.

Gardy just set a new personal-best record for resorting to his safety zone of 3 catchers and 13 pitchers
I was thinking about this when they announced that the transaction would be taking place. Tonkin belongs in Minneapolis and I'm not sure whether any of the position players in Rochester are logical call ups. Still, it is sad that there is some need for an extra arm because of the starters' ineffectiveness.

This made me laugh out loud, I admit it.

But in reflection, I don't know who I would have called up other than Tonkin. It's not like there is any hitting in the minors right now that made an impression in spring training.

Plus, the way the starters are pitching, they're going to need 8 relievers.

I bet that Tonkin will not be in shape to play tomorrow, unless he is on his way already. All early flights from Lehigh Valley International are full and the earliest he can get to MSP is around 1:30 PM local via either Charlotte, NC or Atlanta. Other alternatives are early flights from either Philly or Newark and that means an early wake up call and 1.5 hr car ride to those airports.

Was surprised to hear that he will be available tomorrow, based on the logistics out here...

Someone said he would be in Minneapolis by 10:30. I don't know if that's true or not. Said he's driving to Philly tonight and flying out in the morning.

No way should they bring up Buxton when he gets off the DL, nothing good could come out of that.

Seth, you're showing Herrmann as a backup at 3B. He played 1 game there in 2012 at New Britain. I've always felt playing 3B would increase his value, but hadn't heard he was taking reps there. Do you know something we don't?

He was an infielder/catcher in college. That said, I doubt he is anything more than an emergency option at the position, which is probably what Seth meant but in my opinion really shouldn't count as depth anyway. Probably not quite as desperate emergency-wise as Escobar at catcher, but similar.
